VERA
Thick smoke filled replacing the air in my lungs until I couldn't breathe and fire followed, searing hot, peeling the flesh from my bones.
That could have been me if Xavier and the guards hadn't broken into that room when they did. At the time, I hadn't felt fear, not really, because I believed I was the one pulling the strings. But now the threats haunted me. For two days I hadn't slept a wink.
My mind was plagued with different questions and my paranoia increased such that I even had Sharon follow me almost everywhere except when it was late at night since I had already told one of the Pack guards to replace my door's lock with a stronger one.
Every time I closed my eyes, I saw those bloody feathers and guts, the trail of crimson spreading across the tiles at my feet. With a whimper, I turned on my side, curling into a ball, but the memories clung to me like a second skin.
