EMMA
A dark mist surrounded me ad I stared into plain darkness. I saw nothing except myself and the surrounding darkness but something in my peripheral vision made me turn around, as if someone was standing there with me.
"Where am I?" My voice echoed, lonely and small in the void.
"Emma."
The voice was soft, kind, and achingly familiar. My heart clutched in pain and I hoped desperately that this wasn't a dream.
"M-Mother?" I gasped, spinning toward the sound.
She stood on what looked like a floating cloud, her figure glowing in soft, white light.
"Mother," I whispered, my throat tight. "Is that… really you?"
Her gentle smile—one I hadn't seen in years made my still heart ache. I tried to reach her, but a gaping chasm stretched between us.
"You cannot reach me," she said, her smile turning bittersweet. "We are not in the same realm yet. I am dead, and you are only on the brink."
"Mother…" My voice cracked. Tears stung my eyes. "I've missed you so much."
