c103 Saved! Flee in Defeat?
Total defeat.
Son Goku, Vegeta, and Future Trunks were completely overwhelmed beaten down by the combined might of Goku Black's relentless power growth and Zamasu's immortal, unending assaults. Against these two, there was no opening, no chance.
"It's over!" Goku Black and Zamasu floated into the air side-by-side, their divine ki flooding the ruins below. In each hand, an energy sphere condensed, glowing with enough force to erase the city block and everyone in it.
"Such a shame," Goku Black smirked down at Goku, whose body lay battered and bleeding in the rubble. "As a stepping stone for my evolution, you served well. But this is where you vanish, Son Goku."
"Damn it… urgh…" Goku gritted his teeth, his arms twitching as he tried to push himself up. The damage from using Super Saiyan Blue Kaiōken had torn through his muscles he could barely breathe, let alone fight.
"Hah! Now… die!"
Shhh!
BOOM!
An unexpected blast of energy slammed into the ground between them, the shockwave ripping through the street. Even Goku Black was caught off guard, momentarily halting his attack.
"Now Akilobe, move!" came a faint, strained voice.
A blur of motion streaked through the dust-filled air so fast it seemed to vanish and reappear in multiple places at once. Before the enemy could react, both Goku and Trunks were gone from the battlefield.
When the smoke thinned, Goku Black's gaze swept the area sharply. "They're gone…" His tone was low, dangerous.
"Those humans dare to flee in front of a god?" Zamasu snarled, eyes scanning the debris.
"They ran," Black said flatly. His gaze dropped to the street below, where Vegeta barely conscious lay on his back, having used the last of his ki to fire that earlier diversionary blast.
"Forget them. They can't run far," Zamasu said coolly. "Let's deal with Vegeta first."
"Agreed." Black lowered his palm, a growing sphere of pink energy swirling above it.
Before the attack could launch, several small canisters clattered onto the ground bang! bang! thick gray smoke billowing out instantly.
"Smoke bombs?!" Zamasu's voice rose in disbelief. "Pathetic tricks!"
But when the haze finally cleared… Vegeta was gone as well.
"What?!" Black shot into the sky, scanning for ki signatures nothing. "Impossible! I can't sense them!" His voice hardened into a growl. "Tch!"

In a dimly lit underground shelter, Akilobe set Goku and Trunks down carefully, his own breathing ragged. "Made it… I'm beat."
"Thank you, Akilobe," Goku said, his voice weak but sincere.
Akilobe tried to play it off, but his eyes betrayed tension. "No big deal… heroes always arrive at the critical moment, right?" In truth, he'd been terrified he knew all too well what Goku Black could do. But once he saw the off-world Goku collapse nearby, he couldn't leave him there.
"Where's my father?!" Trunks pushed himself up despite the pain.
Akilobe turned toward the tunnel entrance. "Should be here soon…"
Moments later, hurried footsteps echoed. Mai—older, scarred, but still carrying her revolver led a group of survivors in. Two men supported the unconscious Vegeta between them.
"Dad! …Mai?!" Trunks' expression froze. His relief at seeing Vegeta alive was eclipsed by disbelief. "You're still alive?!"
Mai smiled faintly before hurrying forward and without warning, wrapped her arms around him. "Trunks!"
"Ah easy, that hurts!" Trunks winced.
"Sorry… I'm just glad you're alive," she murmured.
Trunks' eyes softened, glistening with emotion. "Mai… this is… incredible."
Off to the side, Goku tilted his head. "Hooo? So that's how it is…" His tone was teasing, almost boyish.
Both Trunks and Mai turned crimson.
"Alright, enough romance," Akilobe interjected. "We're still in the middle of a war zone."
The group moved out, heading deeper into the shelter.
…
Far above, Goku Black and Zamasu hovered over the ruined skyline.
"I sense only scattered mortal ki," Black said grimly. "They've hidden themselves well."
"Hmph. They should have been eliminated the moment they arrived," Zamasu replied.
Black's smirk returned. "Let them hide. They'll surface again. And when they do…" His voice lowered to a cold purr. "…we'll erase them completely."
Zamasu's laugh rang through the sky. "No mortal escapes divine judgment!"

By nightfall, Goku and Vegeta were brought into the resistance's hidden base—an underground stronghold Mai had maintained for years. It was packed with weary survivors, many clinging to the hope that Trunks' "reinforcements" could end the nightmare.
That hope dimmed when they saw both Goku and Vegeta carried in on stretchers.
Mai distributed what little they had buckets of water, rough bread, and boiled grain. "It's not much, but it's all we have."
"Thanks," Goku said, though his voice carried guilt he knew these rations were meant for starving civilians.
Vegeta said nothing, but his clenched jaw made it clear he felt the same.
"By the way, Akilobe," Goku asked suddenly, "you don't have any senzu beans left, do you?"
Akilobe shook his head. "No. After Korin was killed, I only had a few, and… well, I ended up eating them just to survive."
Both Goku and Vegeta froze, staring at him silently.
"What's our next move?" Mai asked quietly, eyes shifting between the Saiyans.
Trunks stepped forward, his Super Saiyan aura flickering faintly even in his injured state. "We have to return to the past. Goku and my father need healing."
"No," Goku said sharply. "If we use the time machine now, they'll sense it."
"Then what? Stay here until we're cornered?" Vegeta growled. "We can't win in this condition. We go back now."
In the end, they agreed.
Hours later, under cover of darkness, Trunks wheeled the time machine into position in a deserted lot. Goku and Vegeta climbed aboard with him.
Elsewhere, on a quiet pavilion, Goku Black's eyes suddenly narrowed. "He's here…"
Zamasu opened his eyes slowly. "Then the destruction plan begins."
