Chapter 71 - CHAPTER 71

c71: Gohan's Request! Fight Again

Luya greeted Gohan and the others, then turned to Goku and said, "Since there's nothing else, I'll be heading out."

Goku nodded with a casual wave, "Alright! See ya!"

Luya nodded back, turned, and prepared to leave.

"Wait!" a firm voice called out.

Luya paused mid-air, then turned back. "Gohan? Were you calling me?"

Gohan stepped forward, and his expression was unusually serious. His normally gentle eyes now carried a steely determination. "Luya… I want to ask you for a sparring match. Fight me."

"What?"

Everyone present was taken aback. Piccolo narrowed his eyes. Even Goku looked surprised, clearly not expecting such a request from his usually reserved son.

Luya was a little surprised too. In truth, he had been considering fighting Gohan eventually. His system allowed him to learn from strong opponents, and Gohan, the former savior of Earth during the Cell Games, was no pushover. But Luya had felt it would be impolite to ask directly. To have Gohan take the initiative made things easier.

The hybrid Saiyan stepped forward. His posture was calm, but his aura radiated conviction.

Luya looked at him quietly, then said, "Gohan… you do realize that I'm far stronger than I was during the Universe 6 exhibition match, right?"

Gohan nodded firmly. "I know. That's exactly why I want to fight you."

Goku scratched his head, looking concerned. Piccolo gave him a sidelong glance and subtly shook his head, as if to tell him: Let Gohan handle this.

Luya's eyes narrowed. "Why?"

Gohan clenched his fists tightly. "Because… I don't want to be useless again! During the last few crises when Frieza came back, when Universe 6 challenged us—I couldn't do anything. I let myself fall behind. I kept telling myself my family needed me, but deep down I was running away from my potential. But now… I can't let that happen again. I want to stand with the rest of you the next time danger comes!"

Luya nodded slightly, understanding the weight behind Gohan's words. "But couldn't Piccolo train you? He knows your rhythm best."

Piccolo stayed silent, his face unreadable.

Gohan nodded solemnly. "I know. And I will train with Mr. Piccolo. But I also want to spar against unfamiliar styles… powerful ones. If my dad were healthy, I would've asked him too. But now Luya, I need you to push me."

"Gohan…" Videl and Chi-Chi both looked worried. Their expressions were complicated, filled with both concern and pride.

"Please! Help me awaken that fighting spirit I've kept buried!" Gohan bowed deeply toward Luya.

Seeing his sincerity, Luya sighed. "Well… if you insist then I accept."

"Really?!" Gohan's eyes lit up, and he clenched his fists with excitement.

"Let's move to a better spot," Luya said, suddenly shooting into the sky, heading toward a secluded region.

Gohan turned and gave a grateful nod to everyone, then followed.

Goku stepped forward instinctively, clearly wanting to observe but Piccolo grabbed his shoulder. "You're still recovering. Don't go. It might push your condition further."

"Aw man…" Goku muttered in frustration.

Piccolo, however, soared after them.

"You're sneaky!" Goku grumbled.

"Goku! Come take care of Pan! Videl and I will handle the cooking!" Chi-Chi called from inside.

"Alright, alright…" Goku muttered, scooping Pan into his arms.

Meanwhile, far from the city, Luya had led Gohan to a rocky valley secluded and wide enough to handle an intense duel.

Luya floated in the air, arms crossed. "Don't hold anything back. Come at me with your strongest form."

Gohan landed across from him, took a deep breath, and spread his feet shoulder-width apart, adopting a martial stance similar to the one he used in the Cell Games—balanced and precise. The wind stirred around him as he gathered his energy.

"AAAAAAHHH!!"

A powerful golden light burst forth. With a roar, Gohan transformed into Super Saiyan, his power multiplying dramatically. The air trembled as a storm of golden ki radiated from his body.

BOOM!

The transformation was clean and focused far from the wild energy spikes of youth. This was an experienced fighter regaining control.

Gohan's base power had increased since his fight with Frieza's soldiers and his training with Piccolo. Even his Super Saiyan form, long since overshadowed by mystic states and god ki, still carried weight when pushed to the limit.

Luya smiled slightly. "So you're starting from there, huh? Let's see how far you've come."

The battle was about to begin.

But Luya frowned. Even though Gohan had transformed into a Super Saiyan, his power still couldn't compare to Luya's base form. His current combat effectiveness was far below the level it had reached during the battle with Cell or even during his Ultimate/Mystic transformation.

Gohan had truly become "Nobihan"—a nickname fans used to describe his fall from being one of Earth's strongest to a scholar with rusted combat skills.

Luya gave a faint smile, then took two light steps forward and dropped into a calm, yet firm, fighting stance.

[Ding! System Mission Triggered!]

Mission Objective: Gain the combat recognition of five different Saiyans. Current Progress: 4/5.

As he stood ready, Gohan locked eyes with him cautiously. Even in his Super Saiyan form, he could sense that Luya's power while not flaring was dense and overwhelming. His aura was stable like a polished blade.

"So strong…" Gohan thought, gritting his teeth. "It's only been about half a year since the Universe 6 tournament, and his strength has grown this much?! Maybe I should train in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber…"

Before he could collect his thoughts

"Huh?!"

Gohan's eyes widened as Luya vanished from view.

BAM!

Luya reappeared in front of him and drove a clean punch into Gohan's face, sending him crashing through several rocky hills in the valley.

"Don't get distracted," Luya said calmly, his voice steady as if he hadn't just sent someone flying through mountains.

Piccolo, who had arrived moments earlier, hovered silently above the battlefield. He didn't interfere, only watched, his eyes narrowing slightly.

"RAAAAH!!"

A sudden golden light erupted from the rubble. Gohan's aura flared even more brightly as he launched forward with determination and charged at Luya again!

Tatatatatata—!!

As the two clashed, their fists collided in rapid succession. The sound was like thunder, echoing through the canyon with each impact. Though Gohan was giving it his all, the gap in their power was clear. After hundreds of blows

Luya caught Gohan's wrist mid-punch, pivoted with a step forward, and slammed his knee into Gohan's gut. Gohan gasped in pain, and before he could recover

WHAM!

A powerful left hook sent him hurtling into the ground.

Luya didn't let up. His hands gathered ki at his waist in a familiar pose.

"Kame…hame…HA!!"

He fired the Turtle School's signature technique without hesitation.

Gohan, lying prone, pushed himself up just in time. "KamehameHA!!"

He shouted back, launching a counterattack of his own!

The two energy beams collided mid-air, sending shockwaves in all directions. Dirt and debris were blasted away as the energy created a blinding flash. A Kamehameha duel—this was classic Dragon Ball.

Piccolo looked on, a bead of sweat forming on his brow.

"Even among the Z Fighters, there's always been a rule," he thought grimly. "Never challenge the Son family in a beam struggle. But right now, Luya's proving to be the exception…"

Gohan's feet dug trenches into the ground from the pressure. "AAAAH!" he roared, channeling more power, but it was clear he was losing.

Luya narrowed his eyes. "Time to finish this."

He powered up again, his beam intensifying.

Watching from above, Piccolo clenched his fists. "I trained him again after Frieza returned… but Gohan gave it up for his lectures. He's gotten a bit stronger, yes but nowhere near his peak during the Buu Saga. He's too soft now."

It was true. Gohan had once stood above all others during the Cell Games, but now even Super Saiyan was draining him. Piccolo felt bitter disappointment. Not in Gohan's heart but in his choices.

BOOM!!

Gohan's Kamehameha was overwhelmed. The explosion engulfed the valley in a dome of brilliant energy. A crater several meters deep formed at the epicenter.

Luya lowered his hands and exhaled. His breathing wasn't heavy.

As the dust settled, a lone figure was kneeling in the crater.

Gohan.

His aura was gone. His Super Saiyan form had faded. His arms were shaking, and sweat rolled down his face as he gasped for air. He could barely lift his head.

Luya descended gently into the crater and walked toward him.

"…Your strength is far behind what it once was," Luya said, not out of mockery but as a matter of fact.

Gohan didn't respond immediately. He remained kneeling, quiet and ashamed. His fists trembled.
