c69: The Storm Is Over
Although they were still in their base forms, the sheer intensity of Goku and Beerus's clash was comparable to Super Saiyan levels!
Floating high in the air, both warriors stared each other down. Their auras began to surge, twisting the clouds around them, and it was clear to everyone watching, they were preparing for a final, decisive blow.
On the ground, Vegeta's face turned grim, and he immediately turned to Whis.
"Whis! You've got to stop them! If they keep going, Earth won't survive this!"
He wasn't exaggerating. Even without transformations, the power those two could release was enough to destroy planets, and their escalating aura was a clear warning sign.
"Oh dear…" Whis sighed, a bit amused. "Why are they so obsessed with sparring every time they meet?"
In the sky, Goku let out a mighty cry, and his ki burst forth in waves. Though he didn't go Super Saiyan, his aura expanded dramatically, his base power pushed to its very limit!
"Hmph!" Beerus narrowed his eyes, his body now sheathed in a deep purple divine energy, the signature color of the God of Destruction's ki.
The two of them shot toward each other like comets, fists drawn back, ready to clash!
Neither made any attempt to dodge. This was going to be a raw, head-on collision!
On the sidelines, Luya rose to his feet, concern flashing in his eyes. He was ready to step in if things spiraled out of control.
But he underestimated just how fast Whis could act.
In that very moment before the punches could connect—Whis appeared between them in the blink of an eye, effortlessly catching both of their fists in his palms.
"My, my. I told you both already: that's enough. We won't be able to enjoy the banquet if the entire city gets flattened," Whis said, still smiling serenely.
The scene left everyone stunned. Even Vegeta clenched his jaw, once again reminded that Whis's power operated on a completely different scale.
"A true second-class angel…" Luya murmured, his sharp eyes narrowing. The calm power in Whis's movements confirmed it, this was someone even Beerus had to respect.
"Whis! Why'd you stop us?!" Goku protested, clearly frustrated. The thrill of the fight had him completely hooked.
"Because Lord Beerus said to stop," Whis answered smoothly, not even glancing at them as he released their fists.
"Huh?!" Goku blinked in confusion, as did Beerus.
They turned toward the ground where the real Beerus stood watching, no longer in his Monaka disguise. Unlike his usual commanding demeanor, this Beerus looked… well, more than a little frazzled.
So the ruse is over, Beerus thought, exhaling slowly. At least the damage was minimal…
"Oh, okay!" Goku scratched his head and grinned. "If Beerus says so, guess I'll stop!"
He floated gently back to the ground, while Whis floated beside him, giving a tiny nod toward Beerus.
"Excellent work, Lord Beerus. You almost gave the game away… but you pulled through."
"Hmph," Beerus snorted, still looking a little irritated. But deep down, he was impressed by how well the plan worked out.
"Not bad! Monaka's way stronger than I thought!" Goku said brightly, still unaware of the truth. "He didn't even go all-out, but I was really pushed! I bet he held back to avoid wrecking the place."
"Hey!!" Bulma's voice rang out sharply. "I told you not to turn my courtyard into a war zone!"
"C'mon, Bulma, your family's the richest in the world. You can fix a little crater!" Goku laughed.
Bulma crossed her arms and sighed. "Ugh, you're impossible…"
"HAHAHA!" Yamcha burst out laughing, pointing toward the edge of the garden. "By the way, Goku, your match was so intense… Monaka fainted!"
Everyone froze.
Beads of sweat ran down Beerus's face.
"M-Monaka… fainted?" Goku blinked. "Wait, what? Didn't I just finish fighting him?!"
He looked totally confused clearly not realizing he had fought Beerus in disguise.
The others panicked internally.
Beerus twitched. One more slip-up, and the whole secret would come undone.
Thinking about it, Goku turned around sharply, eyes narrowing as he finally noticed Monaka Beken slumped at the side of the yard. The real Monaka stood dazed, staring blankly ahead, unmoving like a mannequin. Goku blinked in shock. His eyes darted rapidly between the lifeless real Monaka and the battle-worn Monaka (actually Beerus in disguise) he had just fought.
"Eh?! What's going on?!"
Everyone froze.
"Uhh…" Bulma tried to force a laugh, glancing sideways awkwardly, but her eyes betrayed panic.
Piccolo, Tien, and even Yamcha were casting silent death glares at Yamcha, who looked like he wanted to dig a hole and disappear into it. He nervously sipped his tea, sweat pouring down his face.
Inside the Monaka costume, Beerus clenched his teeth in growing fury. His divine pride, his God of Destruction authority, his dignity—all of it had been sacrificed just to keep this illusion going! He had gone so far as to dress in this ridiculous outfit, suppressing his ki to make the charade work.
And now, thanks to Yamcha's careless comment, everything was unraveling!
"Unforgivable…" Beerus growled inside the suit, his tone low and chilling.
Woooosh!
Suddenly, a purple storm of Destruction energy surged from within the costume, rippling the air. The grass withered beneath his feet. His godly aura flared like a demon rising from the abyss.
Piccolo and Vegeta immediately tensed, sweat sliding down their temples. Their instincts screamed that Beerus was on the verge of exploding.
"Damn it! We got to this point anyway!" Vegeta cursed in his heart, fists tightening. "Why does every one of Bulma's parties end in global catastrophe?! This is a cursed banquet!"
Even Whis looked exasperated, his usual smile dimming.
"Sigh… You can handle Wukong's recklessness. But Yamcha's stupidity? That's a whole other god-tier threat…"
Just as Beerus's power spiked, ready to erase someone from existence
"Ah! I get it now!" Goku suddenly said, eyes lighting up. "Monaka… is like Majin Buu, right?!"
Everyone blinked.
"Yeah! He can split into multiple versions of himself! That's amazing! Even the clone version was that strong—no wonder I struggled!"
There was silence. Even Beerus blinked blankly under the mask.
Then slowly… his divine aura subsided, shrinking back down like a tide pulling away from shore.
Everyone exhaled in unison, relief hitting them like a wave. Vegeta nearly collapsed on the spot.
"Okay, even though I didn't get to fight the real Monaka, if his clone is that strong, the real one must be incredible!" Goku said with pure admiration. "That's awesome! I'll train even harder, and next time I'll beat him for sure!"
The moment of seriousness ended with Goku's stomach growling like thunder.
"Ah man, I'm starving! Let's go eat already!"
He happily skipped off toward the banquet table, completely forgetting the life-or-death energy flare from moments ago.
Krilin sighed in amazement. "Goku really is something else… completely big-hearted and zero awareness."
Everyone nodded. It was typical Goku.dense, obsessed with strong opponents, and lucky beyond belief.
"Hahaha! Sorry! My bad!" Yamcha scratched his head sheepishly. "Didn't mean to blurt it out…"
Tien gave him a long side glance. "It takes talent to screw up that spectacularly…"
Yamcha shrunk in place. "Just… let me drink my tea in peace, alright?"
At that moment, Beerus removed the Monaka helmet, sweat clinging to his brow. "Finally… it's over."
"Thank you for enduring, Lord Beerus," Whis said, giving a slight bow.
"Tch… after this, let's just say Monaka shouldn't show his face on Earth again," Beerus muttered.
"Understood," Whis nodded, jotting it down mentally.
From a distance, Luya watched Goku devouring food at inhuman speed, a strange glint in his eye.
"There's no way he didn't notice the flaws in the disguise… right?"
"Could Goku really be that clueless… or is there something deeper at play?"
Luya didn't speak further, but he knew one thing for sure—if someone could casually spar with a God of Destruction and still ask for snacks afterward, they were either a fool… or something far more dangerous.
