Chapter 2 - A thing about the past

With their luggage in hand, Adrian and Marcus set off towards the capital, the excitement and nervousness about the Awakening Test growing with each step. The sun was high overhead, casting a warm glow over the landscape as they began their journey.

The sun beat down on Adrian and Marcus as they walked, their footsteps kicking up dust on the dry road. The village was behind them now, and the capital city lay ahead, its towers and spires visible in the distance.

As they walked, Marcus broke the silence. "Nervous about the test?"

Adrian shrugged. "A bit. But we've prepared as much as we can."

Marcus nodded. "I think we're as ready as we'll ever be. Besides, it's not just about passing the test – it's about proving ourselves to the village."

Adrian smiled wryly. "And to ourselves, maybe."

The brothers walked in comfortable silence for a while, the only sound the crunch of gravel beneath their feet. As the sun began to climb higher in the sky, they stopped at a small stream to rest and refill their water skins.

As they sat on a rocky outcropping, Marcus spoke up. "You think Old Man Kahn's really expecting us to send girls his way?"

Adrian chuckled. "Knowing him, he's probably joking...but maybe not entirely."

Marcus grinned. "Either way, we'll have to bring back some stories for him."

Adrian stood up, stretching. "Time to get moving. We don't want to arrive late."

Marcus nodded, and they set off again, their pace quickening as they approached the capital.

Here's a possible continuation:

Years ago

In the Blackwood clan's stronghold, Adrian and Marcus, then just young boys, ran through the streets, laughing and chasing each other. The orange glow of the setting sun cast long shadows behind them, and the air was filled with the smell of cooking food and the sound of clanging swords from the clan's training grounds.

Years ago, in the Hellsbane clan's stronghold, Adrian and Marcus, then just young boys, ran through the streets, laughing and chasing each other. The orange glow of the setting sun cast long shadows behind them, and the air was filled with the smell of cooking food and the sound of clanging swords from the clan's training grounds.

As they played, the sky suddenly darkened, and a blood-red moon hung low in the sky, casting an eerie glow over the clan's stronghold. The brothers stopped in their tracks, looking up at the moon in awe and fear.

Their father, the patriarch of the Hellsbane clan, stood on the tallest building in the clan, his hands behind his back, his expression calm and resolute. "You've finally arrived," he said, his voice low and steady. "Time to end this."

The clan's elders rushed out, their faces grave and worried. "The demon sect is coming! Prepare for battle!"

The brothers looked at each other, confusion and fear etched on their faces. What was happening? Why was the moon turning red?

The patriarch's gaze remained fixed on the moon, his eyes burning with determination. "Adrian, Marcus, stay close to me. We'll face them together."

The demon sect, known for their dark and twisted rituals, had long been seeking to absorb the Hellsbane clan into their ranks. The Hellsbane clan, with their affinity for blood and demonic elements, had refused to join, citing their independence and honor.

The demon sect's leader, a powerful and malevolent figure, had vowed to destroy the Hellsbane clan and claim their power for himself. And now, with the blood-red moon hanging in the sky, the demon sect had finally arrived.

The patriarch drew a sword from his side, his eyes flashing with anger. "Adrian, Marcus, get to the safe house, now! We'll hold them off as long as we can."

The brothers nodded, and with one last look at their home, they ran towards the safe house, the sound of screams and clashing steel echoing behind them.

As Marcus and Adrian got to the safe house, they saw a middle-aged man who, upon closer inspection, turned out to be Old Man Kahn. He led them into the safe house, but just as they were about to enter, he received a message from the patriarch through his message talisman.

"Kahn, I want you to take both of them and run far away from here," the message read. "We underestimated the number of people the demon sect would send. And our ancestors just went to the higher plane, so even they cannot help us. Take them and run, Kahn. That's an order."

The talisman shattered to dust and floated away as Old Man Kahn finished reading the message. He turned to the two boys and said in a heavy tone, "Come along, now. We have to go. This place is no longer safe!"

Marcus asked, "But it's a safe house, isn't it supposed to be the safest place in the clan? And what's going on with the sky? Why did it suddenly turn dark, and where did that big red moon come from?"

Old Man Kahn replied, "Don't worry, I'll explain everything later. But for now, just come with me. That's what your father said."

With that, Old Man Kahn took both boys and escaped the clan through a secret tunnel. They fled into the night, the sound of screams and clashing steel fading into the distance.

The brothers looked at each other, their faces filled with fear and uncertainty. They knew that their lives would never be the same again.

Years later, they stood before the capital city, ready to take the Awakening Test and begin their new lives. But the memories of that fateful night still lingered, haunting them with questions and doubts.

Would they ever find a way to restore their clan's honor? Would they ever uncover the truth about their family's past?

The journey ahead would be long and treacherous, but Adrian and Marcus were ready to face whatever lay ahead, together.
