And just like that, the next morning's light spilled through slats in the nursery blinds.
Isabelle woke against soft blankets, the twins nestled beside her, sleeping peacefully.
She reached to adjust the twins' pillows. Aurora stirred, murmured something.
Julia was already moving quietly nearby, refilling the baby bottles. Isabelle whispered, "Thanks for being here. How were they overnight?"
Julia smiled softly. "They slept well. No nightmares."
Isabelle nodded. "I need to go out today. I'm going to see my father."
Julia paused. "Is that safe?"
Isabelle pressed her lips. "I have to."
She straightened her cardigan, her heart buzzed with a strange worry. She kissed each twin on the forehead. "I'll be back soon. You stay right here."
Julia nodded. "Of course."
Isabelle took her bag, walked toward the nursery door. She paused. "Reign?"
Julia shook her head. "He was here until late. But he left early. He said he'd check on you."
