"Tony! What's wrong with you? Tony! Answer me!"
Pepper's tearful voice screamed from the cell phone lying on the ground. She had only heard a loud crash before Tony's line went silent. Even from her suburban villa, she could hear the destruction in New York and feel the ground shake.
After the little girl's mother found her and took her away, Tony finally composed himself enough to pick up the phone. "I'm fine, Pepper. Superman saved everyone."
Hearing his voice, Pepper let out a huge sigh of relief. "Thank goodness! It's great that Superman was there. I'm sending someone to pick you up immediately. Stay right where you are and don't move."
"I understand," Tony replied, his attention already elsewhere. He gazed at the city he had grown up in. The battle had lasted only moments, yet with Stark Tower as its epicenter, almost all of Manhattan's skyscrapers were destroyed, reduced to rubble by the sheer force of the collision.
This was Manhattan, the economic heart of New York and the densest concentration of skyscrapers in the world. Now, it looked like a war zone. Tony expected to feel angry, to blame Superman for the destruction, but he felt only a profound sense of awe.
He marveled at Superman's terrifying strength and speed. Despite the immense catastrophe, Superman had managed to save every single person in the area, with the exception of those injured in the chaotic stampede. Not a single person was harmed by the falling buildings.
"This is Superman…" Tony's body trembled, a primal fear of such power. But beneath the fear, his competitive spirit, the same one that had been with him since he was a child listening to stories about Captain America and his father, Howard Stark, stirred to life.
Tony had always secretly longed to be a hero. This desire was what kept his heart gentle despite his enormous wealth and power. He had once believed that with a hero like Superman in the world, humanity would be safe. But now, he saw the truth: one hero wasn't enough.
Superman wasn't invincible. His enemies would only grow stronger. This time, the villain had held back, giving Superman the chance to save everyone. What about next time? What would humanity do when a stronger enemy appeared, an enemy that even a hero as powerful as Superman couldn't fight on two fronts at once? The world needed more influence, more heroes.
And Tony, he thought, was the only one qualified to be the next hero.
"Just wait, Superman. Your Batman is coming soon!"
The Battle in the Void
Meanwhile, in the vastness of space, Superman found the Phoenix. She had fully transformed into her fiery bird form, a being of pure energy. The massive creature radiated a light brighter than the sun, and a heat that seared not only flesh but the very soul. Inside this colossal firebird was Jean Grey's body.
"Superman from another world, I know what you want," the Phoenix's voice echoed in the void. "You want me to leave this girl. But you must understand: once I leave, where I go next will not be up to you."
"There's no point in talking," Clark replied calmly. But inside, his heart pounded like thunder, each beat sending vibrations through the emptiness of space. His body temperature soared.
Suddenly, Clark's body lit up like a star. A torrent of solar energy erupted from his eyes, mouth, and ears. This was the Solar Flare, a state he had only barely reached once before with the help of Red Kryptonite. Now, he had mastered it. The energy pouring from him was so immense that for a moment, even the light of the Phoenix seemed to dim.
"What a power from another world!" the Phoenix said, its tone now serious. It had known Clark wasn't from this universe, but seeing this power—one that defied the laws of their reality—shocked it to its core.
The Phoenix dismissed the idea that Superman's power simply came from the sun. The power he was displaying was far too great. It was not mere solar absorption; the yellow sun was simply a catalyst that unleashed his body's true potential. The sun alone couldn't create a monster like this.
But the Phoenix had no time to think, for Clark had already attacked. In a single instant, he shattered one of the Phoenix's wings, turning it into pure energy that scattered into the cosmos.
"So fast. But this is the way it should be!"
Without hesitation, the Phoenix's torn wing was reborn from the ashes in the blink of an eye. It combined with its fiery body and engaged Superman in a brutal, head-on collision of pure power.
In a fight between two beings who could move at the speed of light, there was no room for skill or technique. Human-style fighting was useless against a massive energy being like the Phoenix. Only raw power and speed mattered.
As the two continuously attacked, the Phoenix's energy was constantly broken down and re-formed. Only then did the Phoenix realize that Superman, in his Solar Flare state, was much stronger than it was. The Phoenix's power was ancient and cosmic—it was a fragment of the universe's origin—but this Superman was on a different level.
