Days passed, and as always, Ayesha slept in Lyra's bedchamber each night, avoiding any chance of being alone with Alaric. She wasn't ready to face him and pretend nothing had happened. Too many thoughts churned inside her, leaving her restless and confused.
She didn't even understand herself anymore. It was as if she was becoming emotionally tied to something she knew she could never truly have.
Marie was gone. The past was over. So why did it bother her so much that Alaric's heart still seemed to belong to her sister-in-law?
'Isn't it too early to get emotionally attached to him?' she asked herself.
[Not really. He's our mate after all. Any woman would fall for someone like him.] Shah's voice slipped into her mind.
[You worry too much. The past is past… Why don't you just focus on making him fall for you instead—more deeply than he ever loved Marie?]
The thought unsettled her, but she pushed it aside..
"You're zoning out," Marla's voice interrupted her thoughts.
