Ayesha met her gaze briefly. "It is different," she replied calmly, "but I'm learning every day."
The Queen Mother's eyes flicked between them, reading more in their tones than in their words. "And you are learning well," she said firmly, ending the subtle exchange. She then turned to Alaric. "Speaking of what's best for the family… I believe it's time we finalize Lyra's recognition as your daughter."
Alaric's brow lifted slightly. "You've decided on the timing?"
"Yes," the Queen Mother replied without hesitation. "We can hold the ceremony in two days. That way, she can stand beside you during your father's death anniversary. It will be a strong message to the court and to the packs."
Lyra's eyes widened in delight. "Really? I can stand with Father in front of everyone?"
Alaric gave a small nod. "Yes."
Ayesha glanced at him, catching the faintest flicker of something softer in his expression when he looked at Lyra.
