Heavy silence fell in the room. Kylion fixed his eyes on Apollonia without blinking, Although fear still flickered in his eyes, he showed no sign of stepping back.
“Choose now. There’s no reason for me to keep you alive when you could become a threat to me one day.”
Kylion’s eyes widened; Apollonia’s indirect display of her desire for the throne surprised Kylion. His red irises, similar to hers, remained locked on her, and his breathing became rougher.
Just as Kylion was about to respond, he heard the crackling of firewood outside the door. The sound was just from the fireplace, but it triggered the memories of that day to resurface, causing him to flinch.
“Do you want to forget what happened that day?” Apollonia asked, to which, Kylion nodded in response.
She could understand how he felt. He had witnessed his parents dying in front of his eyes after all.
“But you cannot forget. Never.”
