Chapter 52
“The Duke and Duchess have arrived,” a servant announced.
Lady Talbot promptly rose from her seat, making sure to hide the scandal sheet she had been engrossed in just moments prior.
“My dear Chloe, please, do come in. Or should I say, welcome, Your Grace,” Lady Talbot said, her eyes twinkling.
Embarrassed, Chloe tried to mask her discomfort as she returned the greeting, “I am still getting used to the title. Please treat me as you always have.”
“Although somewhat belated, I extend my heartiest congratulations on your union, Your Grace,” said Lady Talbot, turning toward Damien.
“I brought a small keepsake, as I was told you have an affinity for unique artifacts. It is modest, but I hope it is to your liking,” said Damien, presenting her with a tapestry that was clearly a masterpiece crafted by a skilled artisan.
“I will gladly accept the generous gift,” Lady Talbot replied, making no effort to conceal her delight as she beheld the carriage laden with gifts.
