Chloe paused before responding, “I see.”
“Chloe,” Damien called, his breath labored. Chloe trembled as he tenderly kissed her. “Do you bear resentment toward me?”
“I do not wish to think about anything at the moment.”
Chloe’s wish was disregarded as Damien tightly gripped her face, refusing to release her. “Resent me if you wish, Chloe. Scream and strike me if you must. I will bear it all,” he said in a low, hoarse voice.
“Your Grace.”
“We are a married couple. Disagreements are an inherent part of matrimony, are they not?”
Chloe’s face contorted in pain upon hearing Damien’s words, which were spoken like a veiled threat. “Release me, Damien.”
