Chloe observed in silence as Damien’s icy blue gaze took on the fiery intensity of a raging inferno. She recognized the signs of his brewing anger—the clenched jaw, the subtle twitch of his brow. There was a time when she would have done everything in her power to avoid invoking his wrath, but she now found herself unable to muster a reason to yield to his demands.
“If you wish to spare this bed from being stained with blood, I implore you to leave,” she pleaded. Damien remained silent. “And if you wish to avoid subjecting your mother, the physician, and the entire household staff to the same spectacle as earlier, I beg you to leave me in peace.”
Damien’s frosty features hardened as he finally spoke. “I will do as you wish, but know that it is not for my mother, nor for the staff or Sir Brun.”
“Then… is it for our child?”
