"Is this the place?"
Guided by a passerby, Emiya Shirou arrived at Kaijin's shop together with the other two. Just as Emiya Shirou had said, Kaijin's reputation was well known. Asking around only once was enough for them to find the location without trouble.
"Excuse us."
After knocking, the three pushed the door open and walked inside.
The moment they entered the blacksmith shop, Emiya Shirou and Rimuru saw a dwarven craftsman immersed in forging work. Sparks flew as the hammer struck the metal with steady rhythm.
"Please wait a moment, honored guests," the dwarf said without looking up. "I'll attend to you after I finish this."
"No problem. We're not in a hurry."
Emiya Shirou replied calmly, then led Rimuru closer to the forge to observe the craftsman's movements.
As he watched, Emiya Shirou nodded slightly.
The dwarf in front of them was indeed skilled. His technique was stable, efficient, and confident. Even if this craftsman were placed within the Hestia Familia, he would still be considered of respectable caliber.
One had to understand what that meant.
The Hestia Familia was a Familia founded by a God of Forging. Even though Hestia herself did not directly teach divine techniques, what she imparted were still among the highest human forging methods. On top of that, Orario's blacksmiths possessed an ability known as Divine Blessing.
The "forging" ability granted by Divine Blessing greatly amplified a blacksmith's overall capability.
Compared to them, Kaijin's current level could only be described as good.
However, as Emiya Shirou continued watching, he noticed something else. Mixed within Kaijin's movements were several forging techniques that differed from those used in Orario. They were subtle, but distinct.
And they caught Emiya Shirou's attention.
Those techniques alone made this trip worthwhile.
After some time passed, the dwarven craftsman finally completed his work. He set the hammer aside, straightened his posture, and turned toward the three visitors.
"What kind of equipment do you need, sir?"
Although Rimuru and Gobta stood beside Emiya Shirou, in Kaijin's eyes, they were clearly subordinates. Naturally, he directed the question to Emiya Shirou alone.
However, Emiya Shirou did not answer.
Instead, Rimuru stepped forward.
"We need a large quantity of steel weapons," Rimuru said. "Probably over a hundred."
This was something Emiya Shirou had already discussed with Rimuru beforehand. Since he had chosen to stand under Rimuru's banner, he had no intention of stealing the spotlight.
Some matters were better handled by Rimuru himself.
"Over a hundred?"
Hearing this, Kaijin immediately realized who the core of the group truly was. His gaze shifted subtly, settling on Rimuru instead.
"I'm sorry," Kaijin said after a brief pause. "I can't take on that business right now. The Kingdom's commission alone is already giving me a headache."
"As for other orders, I truly can't fulfill them."
"I see."
Rimuru's expression showed clear regret.
From the ease with which they had found this place, it was obvious how famous Kaijin was. To lose the opportunity to work with such a renowned craftsman was disappointing.
"I heard Master Kaijin is a famous forging expert in this area," Emiya Shirou said. "May I ask what kind of commission is troubling you so much?"
Kaijin sighed.
"I'm short on raw materials. Demonic ore, to be precise."
"Demonic ore?"
Rimuru froze for a moment, then recalled something. He opened his mouth and spat out several chunks of dark metal onto the ground.
"Excuse me," Rimuru asked. "Is this what you mean?"
Kaijin stared at the pile on the floor.
His eyes widened.
"This... this is demonic steel!"
Demonic ore was the raw material used to refine demonic steel. What Rimuru had consumed earlier had already been processed and purified, becoming demonic steel without impurities.
Kaijin bent down, trembling slightly as he picked up a piece.
At that point, Emiya Shirou stopped paying attention to their discussion.
He picked up a piece of demonic steel as well.
As a top-tier blacksmith, Emiya Shirou was no less interested in this material.
Demonic steel was fundamentally different from anything excavated from the dungeon. It was formed from the magicules of this world itself.
If one were to draw a comparison to the world of DanMachi-
Dungeon monsters were living beings with magic stones.
Demonic steel was steel with magic stones.
That was precisely why weapons forged from demonic steel possessed growth characteristics.
Because this material was, in essence, alive.
"This is truly a good material," Emiya Shirou muttered. "Demonic steel."
His fingers traced the surface of the metal, feeling the faint pulse within.
"Maybe I can use it," he thought, "to forge a weapon for myself."
Emiya Shirou had always relied on projected weapons. He had almost never forged a truly exceptional weapon of his own.
But now, seeing this material, an impulse stirred.
He wanted to forge something real.
Something that would last.
After all, as a top-tier blacksmith, how could he not have a representative work of his own?
And almost immediately, he knew what he wanted to make.
A bow.
Although he currently used Atalanta's Tension Bow, it was still not something forged by his own hands. Compared to borrowed or projected weapons, Emiya Shirou preferred something he created himself.
"In that case... it's decided."
"Decided what?"
Gobta's voice snapped him out of his thoughts.
Emiya Shirou looked around.
At some point, only he and Gobta remained in the forge.
"Gobta," Emiya Shirou asked, "where did Rimuru and Kaijin go?"
"Just now," Gobta replied, "Kaijin's younger brother came in to tell him something."
He swallowed.
"Some of Kaijin's workers were attacked by monsters while mining. They're badly injured. They wanted Kaijin to see them... one last time."
"And Lord Rimuru went with them."
"Lord Rimuru saw you thinking hard, Master, so he didn't interrupt you. He told me to stay here and wait."
"I see."
Emiya Shirou nodded.
After a brief moment of thought, he understood how things would turn out.
With Rimuru's abilities, those dwarves would survive. More than that, with a life-saving favor owed, the three brothers would undoubtedly be persuaded to follow Rimuru.
Not long after, footsteps sounded outside.
The door opened.
Emiya Shirou saw Rimuru returning together with Kaijin and the other three dwarves.
After introductions, Emiya Shirou learned more about them.
The eldest brother, Garm, possessed outstanding skill and specialized in forging armor.
The second brother, Dord, had craftsmanship unmatched even among dwarves. His name was renowned far and wide.
The third brother, Myrd, was quiet and reserved. His hands, however, were incredibly nimble. There was nothing he couldn't make.
He was also proficient in architecture and art.
A genuine genius.
With their level of talent, each of them could have easily opened their own shop.
Unfortunately, when it came to dealing with people, they were hopeless.
Outside of their specialties, they were practically idiots.
They were bad at social interaction, bad at business, and incapable of deceit. As a result, they were exploited at every turn.
Their workshop was stolen by people they trusted.
Their fellow apprentices envied their talent and sabotaged them in secret.
They refused a commission from a minister and became an eyesore to the state.
In the end, with no other options left, they turned to Kaijin.
A childhood friend.
An elder brother figure.
They worked temporarily as odd-jobbers in Kaijin's shop.
But Kaijin's shop was still just a forge.
There was no place for armor specialization.
No place for architecture.
No place for artistic construction.
Their talents could not be fully used here.
After being healed by Rimuru, and faced with his invitation, the three brothers did not hesitate.
They agreed immediately.
They would go to the slime's village.
And help build it.
