Ryn had changed. Everything about him—the determination in his eyes, the way he risked his life for Veyr—showed Kael exactly what he needed to see.
This was not the same person he had parted with at the arena.
It could have been different if he had been the one to enter that world instead of Veyr.
But now, Ryn was different. There was a shift in him from the moment he left that world to the moment he returned. Kael could feel it.
Time moved differently in that world. What had happened there between them? The thought burned in Kael's chest, twisting his stomach and setting his mind on fire. He couldn't stop thinking about the worst possibilities.
Rubbing his sweaty palms together, he drew in a shaky breath. "I'm just worried about you and what could happen if we're not careful enough."
