"I can't believe you are here," Ryn muttered as he stared deeply into Veyr's eyes. "Are you real?" He reached out to touch Veyr's face, needing to confirm it.
Veyr caught his hand, rubbed it gently, and kissed it. "I am real," he answered before leaving the portal. "This place feels different from the other side of the hill." He glanced upward as he guided Ryn to lean back against the tree. His eyes lifted to the canopy above. "It seems these branches grow different fruits," he observed quietly.
"Yes," Ryn muttered faintly. His eyes lingered on Veyr with a mixture of relief and dread. "How are you here?" he asked, his voice soft, almost breaking. "When nothing happened from the outside world, I figured something must have gone wrong. And when you came…" He paused, swallowing the words that threatened to escape.
