Ingrates. The word kept hammering in his head as he paced back and forth along the barrier that separated them from the other students. After all he had done to protect them, they had turned against him in the blink of an eye, all because of lies they had heard.
He had thought they were finally getting along, that perhaps he was no longer an outcast, and that meant more to him than he cared to admit.
Yet they had proven they weren't worth saving. Aside from the few who stood close to him, none had truly supported him.
"That stupid Chen," Mira groaned, slamming her fists against the barrier. She struck it several times, frustration shaking through her, but when nothing happened, she let out a harsh breath and walked back to the center. Dropping down, she sat cross-legged on the ground. "I wish I could throw him into the fire for lying about Ryn."
"Calm down, Mira," Ana muttered, sprawled on the ground with her legs crossed. She tilted her head and called out, "Ryn."
