Chapter 268 - Chapter 268: Return to the Wasteland

Earth-21923, New Vegas.

The original name of Hammer Falls was changed to New Vegas, a suggestion made by Peter. After all, Hammer Falls was located on the former site of Las Vegas, and the name served as a perfect symbol for the new era. It was also the name of a game Peter greatly enjoyed, which happened to be set in a wasteland.

Hawkeye was stunned when he saw Magneto. The original native, senile Magneto of Earth-21923 had been killed by Anansi (Spider-God). Now, here was another, younger Magneto?

He leaned closer to Peter and quietly asked, "Is this Magneto... a good guy?"

"He should count as a good guy now..."

This Magneto had been through so much; he was likely focused solely on atonement.

Speaking of which, it's hard to tell if it's the malicious intent of Marvel writers, but in both the Wasteland and Zombie universes, Old Man Magneto is the one who takes the blame. In the Zombie universe, he brought the zombies; in the Wasteland universe, if he hadn't killed the Scarlet Witch, perhaps Thor could have still turned the tide.

He could only be called the Marvel editorial team's designated scapegoat.

"I brought these things. You might find them useful."

Magneto said, bringing over a large pile of salvage from the battlefield. Inside were quite a few superhero equipments. The elderly Hawkeye's eyes lit up—these were great! They were struggling to figure out how to fight Red Skull and his army.

And Magneto's arrival had an added benefit. Anansi had only been driven away a few months ago. Many places still didn't know Magneto was dead, or weren't sure he was truly dead. If a good Magneto were to pose as him here, it could greatly help Hawkeye and the others solve their problems, and even more, deter many restless fools.

"Ahahaha, I appreciate you thinking of us, Erik," Old Man Hawkeye laughed heartily. "Don't worry about the history you have here. Consider this your new home."

It truly was a new home. If these people traveled to other universes, they would easily run into their counterparts, which would cause a lot of trouble. Unlike here, most people were already dead, and it was forty years later, so there would be no name conflicts.

Wanda and Dazzler looked around. The Wasteland universe looked much more desolate than their own, but this was their new home.

Magneto was silent for a moment, looking like he wanted to speak but didn't. Perhaps in the future, he would tell the people of this universe the truth.

The next person to emerge was Ash (from Evil Dead), but no one paid him any attention, and he didn't care either. He was just waiting for Doom to come out so he could go to another world. But Doom didn't emerge; instead, it was Strange.

He had hidden the Darkhold (Book of Sins) well. Not even Peter knew he had swiped it.

A moment later, Doom stepped out, but only one Doom. He looked at the people around him, and finally offered a brief explanation.

"The other me didn't trust the safety of his people and chose to remain in his own universe, where he destroyed the multiversal transit device. Spider-Man, you don't need to go."

Huh? What happened?

Peter looked at Doom with disbelief, but Reed (Richards) patted Peter's shoulder and shook his head.

"The die is cast, Spider-Man. Nothing you say now will change anything. Now, we need to rebuild a multiversal transit device here. According to Strange, doing it this way causes less damage to the universe."

"The least damage would be if you didn't travel the Multiverse at all," Strange shot them a look.

But Reed merely shrugged: "Who knows? But on the bright side, we can help out here. When we travel the Multiverse, we can adjust the time of return. We can spend half a month here, and only four or five hours will have passed on the other side."

"It's a good chance to help this universe."

Undoubtedly, the addition of Magneto, the Witch, Dazzler, and Black Panther injected a completely new dynamic into the "Sunset Years Avengers" and the Wasteland universe. Both the aged Red Skull and Doctor Doom were clearly heading for trouble.

Moreover, Doom's assessment of the local Doom was extremely low. He didn't know what the Doom of the Wasteland universe was doing; to let a completely power-vacuumed area devolve into a wasteland world.

Pure incompetence.

Peter, who hadn't noticed Ash sneak into the portal and head to the next universe, suddenly thought of something and looked at Reed.

"Dr. Richards, can you still build a device to contact the Watcher? I have something I want to ask him."

"What is it?"

"Are there any survivors in the Zombie Sentry universe?"

Earth-Z.

With the help of a Spider-Man from another universe, the transformed Sandman and the former War Machine, now Iron ManRhodey (Rhodes), eliminated all the zombie heroes. Peace was restored to the world—there were no more zombies.

Then, Sandman and Rhodey looked at each other.

They had won, but then what? The world was destroyed. Nothing was left. Not a single living thing existed in the entire universe.

What did their victory bring?

As the two remained silent, a portal opened. Then, someone entirely unexpected to them stepped out.

"Alright, I hope the time coordinates and location the Watcher provided are correct. Hey, why are there a ton of bones on the ground? Did I just see my own bones?"

"Spider-Man?"

Rhodey looked at Peter in disbelief, asking tentatively, "Are you really Spider-Man?"

"Yes, but not your Spider-Man. Considering you've already met an alternate-world Spider-Man, I won't bother with a full introduction."

Peter said, making his proposal: "I just rescued a group of survivors from another zombie universe. The Watcher told me about your situation—you two are the only living people left in your universe, right? Interested in moving? Say, to a world where a super-villain defeated the heroes, and they've ruled the Earth into a wasteland for decades?"

"Sounds like a place that needs help." Rhodey looked at Sandman, or rather, the transformed Sandman, whose every grain of sand had been replaced by flesh-eating nanobots: "What do you think, Flint (Marko)?"

"Anywhere is better than this dump."

"Great, let's go."

Activating the Watcher's teleportation device, War Machine and Sandman arrived in a brand new world. It didn't look like a wasteland. Skyscrapers stood shoulder to shoulder, and various high-tech devices flew around.

"This was done by our universe's Reed Richards. Consider it a toll and a room-and-board fee?"
