~~~ [START]
The clouds gathered in the sky, pouring slow-falling rain.
In the streets, slicing through its falling waters like a bullet, sped a black motorcycle. On its seat was a figure wearing only short pants and a shirt, both of which were drenched with water.
The bike stopped near a house. The figure dismounted and sprinted toward the doors.
He knocked and waited a minute until the door flung open, revealing Bella, who wore red matching pyjamas.
"Jacob?" she said, her voice shivering from the cold. "What…" she hesitated, moving her head out the door, then turning her eyes in all directions. "What are you doing here?" Her question finished, realizing he was alone.
"Bella," he said, stepping closer. "I need your help."
"Thanks," Jacob said, grabbing the cup of coffee Bella handed him. He sighed, moved his left hand, then dried his hair with the white cloth she had offered.
She stared at him, half-seated on the edge of her computer desk. She hesitated to ask him to take off his wet shirt, feeling as though it might make things uncomfortable.
"So, what do you need?" she asked, breaking the silence.
Jacob sipped the coffee, noting the unpleasant flavor it brought. He never liked coffee, but if a beautiful girl offered it, who in their right mind would reject it? So he accepted, inwardly hoping her looks would make it less unpleasant. They didn't.
"I need his number," he said, noticing how she raised a brow.
"Vlad?" she asked.
He nodded, placing the cup on the desk.
"And if it's possible, tell me where he lives." But her frown only deepened. "Don't worry," he tried to assure, "it's nothing like that…"
"I don't know where he lives," she lied, picking up her glass and going for another sip. "Sorry."
Jacob faked a smile, giggled awkwardly, then took his phone out of his pocket.
"And my phone's dead," she quickly shot in. "Can't give them to you unless you wanna wait. Because Charlie is still using it."
Jacob stood up and then walked to the door.
"Okay, give me a second," he said, walking out.
She could hear the sound of his feet approaching the living room. They stopped. A few murmuring sounds reached her ears, then he ascended, walking back to her room.
The door flung open, and a tall, wet, long-haired boy walked in, his smile hinting at confidence.
"I got it," he said, raising his hand and revealing a charger that had been plugged into Charlie's phone. "He wasn't even using it, can you believe that?"
Bella only laughed with forced giggles, wishing she had found a better excuse.
THUD!
The door closed behind them as Vlad moved to the center of Alice's room. Its walls were filled with paintings, most of which were self-produced.
"Wow, this is interesting," he said, grabbing one.
It was an image of a faceless being. It had the body of a human, but its features seemed wildly demonic. At its feet, next to where it stood, was a stream of moving blood flowing from a mountain of corpses in the far distance.
"It's you," Alice said, and a shiver moved down his spine.
"Why don't I have a face?" he asked, ignoring her arm that now hung around his figure. "And what's with the corpses?"
She giggled at his question, grabbed the painting from him, then hung it back where it had once been.
He frowned, watching her walk away.
She walked to the bed, then sat on its comfort. Vlad followed, then sat right next to her.
She stared at the floor, hands trembling as they held each other.
"I wanted to kill her," she said, causing Vlad to shoot his head toward her in an instant. "The shifter."
He frowned at her words, truly bewildered. He raised his hand and placed it on her shoulder.
She leaned to the side, resting her head on his chest.
"I planned so much," she admitted. "I waited so long." Her right arm wrapped around him, tightening. "I want to kill her." Her eyes turned red when she said it.
"Yoo," he held her up, straightening her seated body. "Relax, you aren't killing anyone. And these visions you guys keep talking about; you can see the future?"
She shook her head as though holding back nonexistent tears.
"It's only in glimpses," she said. "And it only happens when someone makes a choice."
His eyes stayed fixed on her, urging her to continue.
"It's like an option, so the vision is never absolute," she continued. "Some of our kind have them, abilities." She softly giggled. "Carlisle refuses to call them powers."
"But what made you sure I wasn't another changing possibility?" he asked, ignoring her last statement. "How did you even have the vision if I wasn't a choice? That is how it works, right?"
She nodded, turning her head toward her paintings. He followed her gaze, and his eyes nearly widened.
Right there, hanging neatly on the wall, were faceless figures. All were positioned in the same posture, all standing on flowing blood, all inhuman, nearly demonic. They looked the same, the only difference being their clothing.
"It did," she said, her voice softening. "But the only thing that changed was your clothes. Nothing else."
He sighed, his heart nearly pounding.
"I mean, I get it," he said. "But… are you even sure it's me…"
"Do you love me?" Alice interrupted, looking dead straight into his eyes.
He hesitated, his answer withheld.
"I… I don't know." He leaned forward, arms now lowered to his feet, supporting his nearly crouched body.
"That doesn't matter to me," she said, her eyes hinting at pain. "That's how I know it's you." She moved her arm and interlocked it with his. "Vlad, I will do anything for you."
