~~~ [START]
A raindrop fell on the stairwell of the entrance to a large, breathtaking home.
Vlad, following behind Alice, frowned faintly, his steps deliberately slowing.
In seconds, they reached the glossed door as Alice flung it open.
His steps shivered as they proceeded with their walk.
Then, when they reached it, foot floating right above the door frame, he stopped.
And suddenly a chill ran through his spine as the smell of flowers overwhelmed his senses.
His heart stopped for a moment, and his thoughts were rendered null.
Until Alice grabbed his arm, smiling, giggling faintly, and then pulled him inside.
The interior was mostly filled with artwork. And what stood out most noticeably was the purely white stairwell that rounded the entrance hall.
Alice looked back at Vlad, smiling, enthusiasm lingering on her grin.
"What?" Vlad asked, raising an eyebrow. But she stared at him longer.
"I mean…" He turned his head to the house, eyes shifting, analyzing its contents. "It's… really beautiful."
And she laughed at his words. Her hands still pulled him by the arm as she climbed the entrance stairs.
But her touch was gentle, as though it wasn't truly meant to be a pull but a touch instead.
Climbing them and walking through an alleyway, his eyes widened when they were met with the sight of a ghoul cooking.
"Oh," the ghoul said, lifting her head and staring straight at him. But before she could reply.
"The Ghoul cooks?" Vlad said, which caused her eyes to widen. "She actually cooks." He pointed at her, eyes now turned to Alice, who was laughing.
"Yeah, yeah, yeah… It's funny, we get it," the ghoul said, dropping the plate of potatoes she was peeling into their container. "You actually came."
Vlad just shrugged his shoulders.
"I guess we meet again," he said, walking closer to the kitchen counter, "Rosalle."
"It's Rosalie, dipshit," she said, narrowing her eyes. "I know you are doing it on purpose."
"Okay, okay," Emmett walked in with his deep voice. "Let's take it easy." He laughed.
Then Jesper, the other ghoul, walked in behind him. And in his arms, embraced by its comfort, was Edythe, smiling.
"Don't mind her," she said, directing her words to Vlad. "She has always been like this."
"No shit," he laughed as he spoke. "You should hear the nickname they gave her at school…"
"Swearing words aren't allowed here, Mr. Dracul; this is a home, not a brothel," Carlisle walked in, giggling.
Then, bloating from his arm, arriving near Vlad in seconds, was Esme, already holding Vlad's hand and giving it a stern shake.
"Hello, dear," she said, her voice sounding ancient. Vlad nodded his head slowly, releasing his arm from her hold.
"Hello…" he said, breathing out in relief when she let it go. "You must be the…?"
"My mother," Alice said, breaking his hesitation. She turned to Carlisle. "And he's my father."
"Oh." Vlad's eyes slightly widened as he realized his mistake. "Mrs. Cullen, Alice has said… absolutely nothing about you, I'm sorry."
And they laughed at his words.
"He's joking," Alice said, punching Vlad on the shoulder, giggling.
"It's nice meeting you," he finally announced. He turned his gaze to the siblings who were scattered around the dining room. "Ahh, Mr. Serious," he said, staring directly at Edward, who nodded, then continued to look down as though in constant thought.
Carlisle walked to him from the back, then held his shoulder.
"So, did she tell you?" he asked, words weirdly direct.
"Yeah," Vlad said. "She said you guys wanted to talk."
"Okay, so let me get this straight," Vlad said with a serious expression. "I have a bond with… Alice, right?" and Carlisle nodded at his words. "And you are telling me that somewhere out there," he pointed west toward the see-through window, "there is a wolf… woman… Who… what? Who basically has the same thing?"
Carlisle's expression hardened, and his eyes looked down.
Was he feeling guilty? Or a thought of remorse? He really didn't know.
But all disappeared when the lad in front of him began laughing.
It wasn't loud laughter, just one filled with giggles.
"What's up with you?" Rosalie asked, totally unhinged. "Is something funny?"
"No, sorry." Vlad tried to stop laughing. "I'm just failing to see why that's so bad," he said. "I mean, it's not like it affects me."
"We know," Esme shot in, "but that's more of the reason we should worry."
Vlad raised a brow at her words.
"Our mating is different from theirs," Carlisle said, glancing at Alice, who sat near Edythe. "When we mate, it's not something that happens instantly," he explained, causing Vlad to hold an expression of understanding. "It happens over time, and sometimes it takes years, even decades." Vlad's brow raised. "And when that mate is formed, it becomes unbreakable." Carlisle turned his eyes to Alice, then turned them back to Vlad again. "It might not have affected you, but Alice shares a different fate."
Vlad sighed, frowning.
"I mean, I get it, but still," he said, shaking his head, "it hasn't been a week since I met her; a mate shouldn't even be possible."
Then all eyes instantly turned to Alice, and Vlad noticed.
"So, she didn't tell you, did she?" Carlisle asked, causing Vlad to frown even more. "Alice can see the future," he continued, leaning back. "I won't tell you much about it, since I'm entrusting Alice with that responsibility. But all I can say is, she has been having future visions about you even before she became a vampire. So to her…" he hesitated, "your bond was formed about a hundred years ago."
