Vexia's laboratory was nothing like what Nox expected.
He assumed a scholar's workspace would be dusty and cramped, filled with old books and the smell of paper. Instead, he walked into a space that felt more like a cathedral of knowledge. High ceilings stretched upward into darkness, supported by pillars covered in glowing runes. Crystal cases lined the walls, each one containing artifacts that hummed with magical energy. Floating lights drifted through the air like lazy fireflies, illuminating workbenches covered in diagrams and arcane symbols.
'Okay, this is impressive. I hate that it's impressive.'
Vexia led him to a raised platform in the center of the room, surrounded by a circle of silver runes embedded in the floor. She gestured for him to stand in the middle.
"Please remove your shirt and hold still. The initial scan requires skin contact with the diagnostic array."
"Romantic first date," Nox muttered, but he pulled off his shirt and stepped into the circle.
