That night, Axel lay on the bed staring at the ceiling, his thoughts heavy. He turned and looked at Jayvaughn, who was beside him, already looking drowsy. Axel wanted to test something—just how suspicious Jayvaughn truly was of him.
He slid closer, brushed his fingers against Jayvaughn's chest, and whispered softly, "Jay..." His voice was low, warm, intentionally suggestive. When Jayvaughn turned to him, Axel leaned closer, his lips just brushing the side of Jayvaughn's neck.
But instead of responding with the usual affection and heat, Jayvaughn let out a tired sigh. He placed his palm gently against Axel's cheek and said, "Axel, I'm tired tonight. Go to sleep, okay?"
Axel forced a smile and nodded. "Alright." He turned his back toward Jayvaughn, his lips still curved upward, but as soon as his face was hidden, that smile vanished like mist under sunlight. His chest tightened. He realized then the gravity of the situation.
