SOPHIA
I paced around the room, rubbing my hands nervously as Katherine watched me with intent. The guard was waiting to escort me back to the palace and i didn't know if i should escape through the back door and run away from here or just face him.
I have done nothing wrong, i have hidden my identity, blended in the people living here as much as i can and i have tried my absolute best not to get into any kind of trouble so why would i be summoned?
I had tried to ask the guard and get some information on what the king wanted to see me for but he doesn't have a clue either. I couldn't even tell if he was lying or just saying that for saying sake so that he wouldn't implicate himself. Fuck! I'm screwed!
I should've stayed away. What was the point of trying to be a savior in a world where no one knows me? I should've pretended not to care then maybe this wouldn't have happened. The more i thought about it, the more my heart pounded loudly in my chest. At this rate, someone staying a hundred miles from here would hear it too.
"What have you decided Sophia?" Katherine asked me, standing up to her feet. "You have to make a decision now. It's disrespectful to keep the Alpha king waiting when you've been summoned. He could have your head for insolence."
I froze. My hands flying around my neck to touch it. What is it with everyone trying to kill people for the slightest things over here? Doesn't life matter to them over here? Was it a joke? Now that she had put it this way, how does she expect me to have a decision when my life is practically on the line now.
I sighed deeply. "But why on earth does he even want to see me? It's crazy because i haven't done anything wrong."
"Then go over there and find out." Katherine insisted. "Staying here and guessing over his reason for summoning you wouldn't give you an answer."
"You're right." I breathed out and straightened my dress. I am a nervous wreck. "I'll go. Please tell your grandmother that i will be back soon, hopefully." I whispered the last word to herself.
"Are you ready, Miss?" I overheard the deep and brittle voice of the guards calling out to her from outside the house. I had told then that I needed to freshen up before we leave and they had granted me permission to do so.
"Y-Yes I'm coming." I stuttered and made my way outside the house. After bidding Katherine farewell, they escorted me back to the palace.
When we arrived, I noticed that we didn't pass through the smaller alley that led to the back door like last time. They led me through the big gates. I'm guessing that it's because of the king's summon. This part that led to the throne room was like another piece of heaven.
It was big, with trimmed flowers planted everywhere and a pavilion at another corner. I was looking around to distract myself from what was about to become my fate which was quite unknown. We walked through the large hallway till we got to another door that was heavily guarded by other guards.
"Wait here. I'll inform the Alpha King of your arrival." One of them said to me and walked inside, leaving me to my own thoughts. I squeezed my hands, pushed my hair, bit on my lips to stop myself from thinking too much.
When the door pushed open for the second time, i almost jumped right out of my skin.
"He's ready to see you now." He informed me and held on to the door for me to enter. As soon as i did, it was slammed shut behind me.
The throne room looked like another place entirely. It was large and filled with exotic plants, pictures and artifacts. I spotted the Alpha King on his throne watching me and i quickly hastened my steps. I was gestured by one of the guards to stand a few feet away from him which i did before blowing my head to show my respect.
"Greetings Alpha King." I bit down hard on my lips. I can't believe that I was doing this. Gosh! If i don't find a way back home then i might loose it soon.
"There's no need for formalities my dear." He said and i lifted up my head. His voice sounded welcoming and not harsh as i had expected leaving me shocked. Weren't kings supposed to be wicked, vile and evil or did i read so many bad books growing up? "Welcome. I invited you here because i am in dire need of your help."
"How can i be of help to the Alpha King?"
He sighed. "My Queen is ill." He started. "She has been sick for almost two weeks now and she's not getting any better. The pack doctors and royal physicians have tried all they could but to no avail."
His wife is ill? No wonder the physicians couldn't treat the maid that day. They had all been busy attending to the queen.
"I heard about how you helped that servant girl days ago and i need you to do the same for my wife." He said to me. Treating a member of the royal family? Fuck! That wasn't part of my bingo card in this strange world.
I don't like treating people who are in power. What if i made a mistake and he kills me? What if it's a drastic illness that i can't handle. Why did i even have to save that girl? Everything keeps getting complicated.
"Can you do it?" He asked. He made it seem like i have a choice in the matter when in real sense, I didn't.
"I will examine the Queen, Alpha king but if it's something that i can't do then am i permitted to refuse, My Lord?" I asked cause I wouldn't want to run into trouble when I refuse later on. He gave my request some thought while I waited patiently for him to grant his permission.
