SOPHIA
It has been three days since i found myself here in this strange place.
Three days since Jason and Juliet cheated on me and three days since I was trapped here and in those three days, i have been trying my very best to adjust to my new life here. I have come to realize that i wouldn't be leaving here anytime soon so i might as well just try to blend in with the rest of the pack.
I haven't heard anything from the three guys who had found me when i got here. At first i was scared that they would come looking for me, given how reluctant they were to let me go or i might bump into them by accident but they didn't.
It's almost as if they had forgotten about my existence or given up looking. Maybe they felt like i had been eaten alive by a wild animal, abducted or something.
Either ways, i was glad that they had given up looking. Everything felt different here and the people here in the village were nice and treated me kindly. Although most times, i couldn't help but think about my parents and how they were handling my disappearance.
Each time I do, I feel sad knowing that they might never even find me. Being trapped in a strange world isn't exactly the first place one would think of when someone is missing and they must be so worried. Were they even looking for me or did Jason and Juliet come up with a lie to cover their tracks?
Just thinking about it always finds a way to ruin my mood but i was still determined to find my way out of here no matter what. I wouldn't let these past occurrences ruin my spirit or break me down.
"Sophia?" Katherine waved her hands across my face and i jolted back to reality. I can't believe that i had zoned out on her. "I've been calling your name for a while now. What are you even thinking about? Did you remember something?" She asked curiously but i shook my head.
"No." I answered and her head hung in disappointment. Katherine has been trying her very best to get me to remember my past that i had lied about but all her efforts were futile. I feel bad for lying about who I am but i didn't have that much of a choice. I can't risk my safety until I'm sure that she can be trusted and that i can open up to her.
"Don't worry, i know that you'll be found. Someone might already be looking for you." She touched my arm in consolation. "You definitely won't be lost forever."
I really wanted to be believe in that last statement because i would give anything to go back home to my parents and my life there. In as much as this place is good, i still couldn't shake off the feeling that I don't belong here.
Every moment of my life since I got here has been in constant fear. I feel as if someone is watching me or I'll be caught soon.
"I really hope so too. I feel like I'm a burden to you and Grandma." I said instead.
"Nonsense." She waved me off. "You are not a burden to anyone and besides, i like having you around. It gets lonely being here all the time by myself and after everything you did for my grandmother, it's the least we could do to help."
I smiled at her kind words. We were both feeding the animals at the barn. Today was her day off from the royal palace so we decided to do the house chores together.
"I've been thinking..." She started and i raised up my head from the chicken coop to look at her. "Wouldn't it be nice for you to come and work with me at the palace for the meantime?"
I straightened myself as she went on. "I mean, if they were probably looking for you then i think that being in a prominent and open place would be to your advantage. It would be easy for you to be seen and you might run into someone who recognizes you."
"I don't know." I muttered worriedly. Was it a good idea to be out there in the open? What if i ran into those men that kidnapped me? What if they find me? But then again, I wouldn't be able to make any progress if i was stuck here in the house all day. Was this idea worth the risk?
"There's an opening in the palace and you can join me tomorrow to see the head maid. I'm sure that you'll be given the position." Katherine tried to convince me. I know that she means well but i don't think I'm ready for that.
And if i don't agree to this then she might end up being suspicious about my identity. I mean which missing person wouldn't be thrilled at an opportunity to find their home?
"Plus, there's a library at the palace so you could search for scrolls and books that might help to jog your memory about where you come from. What do you think?"
That's actually not a bad idea. Books hold records of time, place and people. They also hold important information too. I could easily use this opportunity to start my research on how to go back home. A solid plan that was definitely worth the risk.
If I can figure out something about how I got here, I may be able to unlock whatever door that brought me here so that I can leave this place.
"I think it's a great idea." I answered and her lips stretched out into a wide smile. "Let's go with your plan."
"Great! I'll inform grandmother about it so that she wouldn't worry." She assured me and i smiled in agreement. Today was certainly looking good after all. I would find a way to secure the job, find the library and do whatever it takes to go back home.
