Experiment?
Hearing Xenovia say that, Arthas couldn't help but think of Genshirou, who'd died the previous night. He seemed to be the product of their experiment.
The ability to allow a devil to freely wield a holy sword was truly unimaginable technology.
"Recently, we've also secretly sent priests and exorcists here, but they were all eliminated."
Xenovia said, implying the priest Genshirou had killed was one of theirs.
"So… you're here to request assistance?"
But things went exactly contrary to Rias's expectations. Xenovia stated clearly:
"Our request—no, our demand—is that the devils in this town not interfere in our battle with the Fallen Angels over the King's Swords. In short—stay out of it."
Rias raised an eyebrow.
"That's arrogant. Is this a threat? You wouldn't think we might be colluding with the Fallen Angels—to jointly handle the holy swords, would you?"
"Headquarters believes it's a possibility."
Rias's eyes flashed coldly; she was clearly furious!
The enemy had barged into her territory, arrogantly forbidding interference and collaboration, threatening dire consequences. As a high-ranking devil, Rias couldn't possibly tolerate this.
"Our superiors don't trust devils and Fallen Angels. Eliminating the holy swords from the God faction would benefit devils, wouldn't it? This benefits you and the Fallen Angels equally, so collaboration isn't surprising. This is a deterrent—if you collaborate with the Fallen Angels, we'll annihilate you. Even if you're a Devil King's sister—that's what my superior said."
Xenovia met Rias's gaze unflinchingly, her tone even.
"Knowing I'm a Devil King's sister means you're connected to high-ranking officials. I'll be frank. I won't collaborate with those Fallen Angels. Never. I swear on the Gremory name, I will never disgrace the Devil King!"
A stalemate ensued.
Xenovia chuckled lightly.
"That's enough. We're here to inform you that the Fallen Angels have infiltrated this town with three—no, two—King's Swords. Any mishap will bring wrath upon me and Church headquarters. As for assistance, it's unnecessary. Even temporary collaboration with the God faction would disrupt the three-way balance. Especially since you're a Devil King's sister."
Rias's expression softened slightly; she sighed.
"What about the Orthodox Church?"
Xenovia answered Rias's question.
"They're not intervening. Probably considering Irina and I are unlikely to recover the holy swords, they intend to guard the last one."
"Just the two of you? You intend to retrieve the King's Swords from Fallen Angel executives? That's reckless. Are you trying to die?"
Rias was dismissive, but Irina Shido and Xenovia met her gaze with unwavering determination.
"Yes."
"I feel the same as Irina, but I'd prefer not to die if possible."
"You came to Japan prepared to die? Your faith is extraordinary."
"Please don't underestimate our faith, Rias Gremory. Right, Xenovia?"
"Yes. And the Church has decided, rather than letting the Fallen Angels use the King's Swords, it's better to destroy them all. Our mission is to eliminate at least those in the Fallen Angels' possession. We're willing to die for that. Only a King's Sword can counter a King's Sword."
"Can you two really do it?"
"Yes, of course. I'm not planning on dying for nothing."
Xenovia responded fearlessly.
"Very confident. Secret weapon?"
"Whatever you think."
After this exchange, both sides stared at each other, the conversation ending abruptly.
Irina and Xenovia exchanged a glance and stood.
"We should be going. Irina, let's go."
"Oh, won't you have some tea? Let us at least offer you some sweets."
"No, I fear I might not be able to restrain myself from killing him if I stay a second longer."
Xenovia waved, her gaze lingering on Arthas before rejecting Rias's invitation.
"I said, what did I do to provoke you?"
Arthas looked exasperated. He couldn't understand Irina's intense hostility.
"It's unavoidable. Your existence is too dangerous. If you're allowed to grow, you'll threaten the entire Church. Those are the Angel's words."
"Oh, even the Angels know about Arthas?"
Rias said, surprised, though her expression was mostly proud.
"Rest assured, given our agreement, I won't attack any devils in this city. Of course, if the opportunity arises, I will kill your Pawn in a fair duel. I will show the Underworld and the Church that you new devils are weaklings."
Arthas raised an eyebrow, wondering if the girl's name was Xenovia Quarta.
Enough already. You've been showing off since last night.
I've been holding back. Don't push me.
Before Arthas could act, a sword sang out in the clubroom.
"What do you think you're doing?" Irina frowned, blocking Yuuto's sudden attack with her shape-shifting holy sword.
"Retract what you just said." Yuuto pointed his sword at Xenovia, his voice icy.
He'd restrained himself under Rias's control, but Xenovia's insult had finally pushed him over the edge.
Her "younger generation" encompassed not only Arthas but also Rias and everyone else present.
"And who are you?" Xenovia asked coldly.
"Yuuto Kiba, a Gremory Knight, and formerly… your senior… though a failed one." As he spoke, countless demonic swords materialized in the clubroom.
