Chapter 26 - Mr Walter Was Here To See

An image of the place of incident was displayed on the screen. Cynric looked at the screen in disbelief and than at the man. "You thought I am behind it? You ****! I didn't do that!"

Cynric felt it was unfair to get that nerve-wrecking pain for something which he never did.

Samuel, who had been a silent spectator all this while asked, "If it wasn't you then who could it be?"

The gravity of the question dawned on Cynric. Exactly.

It wasn't him then who was it?

"Are you sure that it was not really the animal this time?" He questioned although Cynric somewhere knew that this man wouldn't have caused his head to almost erupt if it was just some animal.

He would have done his homework already.

Cynric gazed at the man who sat, now fully contemplating something. "Who else came with you?"

"No one. It's just me."

Cynric got up from the floor and flopped on the opposite couch.

Samuel recalled something. "What were you doing in the university in the middle of night then?" He still had his suspicions.

Cynric gave him a side eye, almost impressed by the transformation. He did not reply to Samuel and applauded at the man ahead. "You really turned him sharp! Good job with picking him up for this one time." He finished and laid back.

"Answer the question."

Knowing he had no way out, Cynric sighed in defeat. "Alright! I was going to the cemetery."

"Through the university?" Samuel was swift in posing next question.

Cynric looked at him for a moment. Samuel was thoroughly inspecting his every expression. "You also know that I didn't do that, don't you?"

He shrugged. "But need to support that assumption with evidence."

Cynric was speechless.

He ignored Samuel thereafter. "But if it wasn't an animal, who could it be? This haven't happened all these years."

The man was quiet for a moment before his voice echoed in the quiet room. "They have begun appearing."

-

The meeting with Mr. Walker wasn't long. Crescent could tell he was really busy but he didn't let her feel like that. Something in her heart was pulled when he handed over a brown bag prepared by Mrs Walter.

There were baked cookies in it.

Truthfully, Crescent never had felt the nurturing and caring of a parent ever before in her life. And to had Mr And Mrs Walter here, was completely unexpected.

She needed the shelter. Had it not been for that, she would have never agreed for them adopting her.

They would be hurt in the end.

Sighing, Crescent got back to her room.

"Oh? You're back? What's in that?" Misty noticed the bag, her eyebrows curiously raised up.

"Cookies. My mother sent them for me."

"Oh that's great! She was here? You could have called me too!" Misty pouted.

"My father was here but only for a few minutes." Crescent took the out the box of cookies packed cutely. There were stickers of cartoons pasted on the white cardboard box with a pink ribbon tied on it.

Misty laughed. "Your mother must really take you as a little child even now."

Crescent did not know whether to laugh at it or cry. With a small smile that had scooted on her lips, she unwrapped the ribbon.

There was a card which slipped when she pulled the ribbon away.

"Dear Cristie,

I made a lot so do share with your roommate. I couldn't come due to urgent work but I will be there to meet you soon.

Lots of love."

"You wouldn't eat that all by yourself, right?" Misty looked over from where she sat, on her desk, leaving the drawing book on which she was sketching.

Crescent carefully kept it on the table. "She had made a lot for both of us."

It brought a grin on her face. "That's great!"

"I am keeping the box here, feel free to eat as you like."

"Sure."

Crescent took a cookie out, bit on it and went back to what she was supposed to do earlier.

Thesis.

One thing that she learnt from Mr Walter was that while making the thesis, never take the content from the internet. The published reports were much more reliable and secured sources.

"What are you doing?"

"Preparing a thesis."

Misty was surprised. "This soon?" She had heard that this university was quite top-notch in the matters of education. But to start it this early? She didn't imagine that.

"Yeah actually there is a History Researcher who is here, making another one of his thesis over some topic. He needs an assistant."

Misty finally understood. "The University must want to get the credit for one of their student as well."

It was exactly that. Since this was going to benefit her only, Crescent did not have any complaints.

"When do you need to submit it?"

"Tomorrow." Misty gaped. "How would you complete it?" She knew that making it was not a joke. While entering this university, Misty had a hard time preparing one related to fine arts.

It had taken her days!

"But I already have a few prepared. Only need to brush certain things up."

Misty nodded and asked, "Who is this History Researcher by the way? Somebody that prominet?"

Misty had been too carefree her entire life, she didn't exactly fall in the category of the people who were always excited to do everything.

Hence, had she been given the opportunity and she had to choose between making a thesis in a day or chill, Misty would undeniably go for chilling.

Perhaps that's why it was a little hard for her to imagine this.

Also it could be that making thesis once had given her trauma for life.
