The TV blares into Kathryn's face but it was just the regular news. She changed the channel one after the other until she became fed up.
There was no news about Anna.
Was Aidan playing games with her?
In frustration, she tossed the remote away and stalked back to the sofa to grab her phone.
"Mom, why would you invite Aidan here? Why will you even think of proposing something like that to him?" Sophie's voice shot up sharply after she had seen there was nothing tangible on the news.
Kathryn ignored her.
"Mom," Sophie pressed, stepping forward. "We don't need Aidan. You know what we need. The Great Dane! Not that wretched Aidan!"
"Shut up!" She snapped at Kathryn. "What do you know other than to spread your legs for gutter trash?"
"Mom?!" Sophie stamped her feet on the floor in frustration, her eyes shimmering with hurt. She collapsed onto the sofa, and whimpered like a child.
Kathryn ignored her again, and dialed her friend's number.
Pick up. Pick up, dammit.
