Chapter 9 - Chapter 9 - Wormhole Portal

The day went by as usual. My dad came back from work, we ate dinner, went to bed, and slept.

Morning came, and I woke up early at 5:00 am.

My mom, and dad were asleep. I quietly walked outside the house, making sure that no noise was made.

I wore a black shirt, black trousers, and plain black hoodie. An all-black outfit.

My destination was a recently appeared Wormhole Portal thirty minutes away from my house. The Wormhole Portal appeared near a local Middle School.

Last night I went through the Scythe recruitment website. It was a website for low level Scythes from F-class to E-Class to go raid the low level Wormhole Portals, and earn money by clearing it. I happened to see a recruitment for low level Scythes about raiding an E-Class Wormhole Portal. Sensing a great opportunity, I made a decision. Of course, at the moment I was 16 years old, and didn't had my mana level measured by the Scythe's Association, so I was not permitted to enter in a Wormhole Portal until I was a full fledged Scythe.

Every single Scythe's information is required if they want to join a Raid Party for raiding a Wormhole Portal. I saw every Scythe's information who was joining the Raid Party for tomorrow's Wormhole Portal Raid.

I had two options.

1: Go with the Raid Party as one of them.

2: Pretend to be someone else, and take their place in the raid.

Of course, the latter was impossible because a specific number of Scythes are needed for every raid, 10 to sometimes 15. And the raid leader knows how many will be raiding the Wormhole Portal.

The former, on the other hand, was much less impossible. I could either bribe a low level Scythe, offer them that I go with the Raid Party in their place. That way, that Scythe will be safe from all the danger, and earn money without even doing anything.

If that wouldn't work, I could just…

The day of the raid finally arrived, and I was on my way to the Wormhole Portal.

I had memorized every Scythe's name, and face that was joining the raid.

I arrived at the scene. I made sure to stand far away, so no one would be able to see me. This was my first time seeing a Wormhole Portal in-person. It's length was 4-meter tall, and 4-meter wide. Quite large for an E-Class Wormhole Portal.

My target, and who I'll pretend to be in this raid was a man who looked to be in his early twenties. His name was Ren Ivan. An E-Class Scythe. Maybe he recently got his mana levels measured, not maybe not. And maybe this was his first Wormhole Portal experience, or maybe not. Who could tell. As far as I'm concerned, he was my target, and that was it.

There was twenty minutes left until the raid to begin, and not all of the recruited Scythes had arrived.

Hiding behind walls. I waited. I waited until my target would appear, and I'll take his place as him in this raid.

After ten minutes, he finally appeared. I saw him coming towards the Wormhole Portal. He was wearing bronze armor gear on his chest, head, shoulders, and legs. And had a short sword in it's sheath. As soon as he came closer, I grabbed his right wrist from behind, put him in a chokehold with my left arm, dragged him in an alleyway, and knocked him out, making sure that no injuries were caused.

With his now unconscious body in my arms, I carefully put him on the ground, and rested his back against the wall.

I left his unconscious body in the alleyway, and hurried toward the Wormhole Portal with his short sword, and left him with bronze armor gear with him.

All male, and female Scythes that signed up for this raid had arrived.

I hurried, and stood beside them.

"Alright people, look alive!"

The raid leader said, attempting to lift everyone's spirits before entering the Wormhole Portal.

The raid leader's name was Marc McKinley. He was in his late thirties. He had a fit body, mostly thanks to living as a Scythe. He had black grayish hair with no facial hair, no beard, no mustache. He was wearing a full body silver armor, and had a long sword.

"Is this everyone?"

He added.

"Yeah, I think"

One of the other E-Class Scythe added.

"Alright! Now that everyone is here! Let's enter the Wormhole Portal, and defeat the monsters inside! After we're done, the Collection Team will arrive, and collect all the materials, and corpses inside the Wormhole Portal!"

"Alright! Let's go in!"

The raid leader said, encouraging everyone.

One by one, everyone entered the Wormhole Portal. And now, it was my turn.

I put my right foot inside the Wormhole Portal, and it disappeared. I looked at my foot, visibly surprised. I closed my eyes, continued, and walked inside the Wormhole Portal.

The experience of going through a Wormhole Portal was very different, bizarre, unnatural. It felt as if my whole body was being stretched to the point of being ripped apart. It felt as if I was stepping in an entirely new world with it's own unique laws, physics, and principles.

The air, the atmosphere, the environment, everything felt completely different, and new. It felt as if this was not where we belonged.

My stomach clenched, tightened. I vomited. I threw up whatever was in my stomach from last night.

I had not even opened my eyes after entering the Wormhole Portal, and I threw up in less than a second.

I held my stomach. Gripping it tightly with my arms, and crouched down on my knees.

"First time, huh? That happened to me to. But don't worry, you'll get used to it eventually!"

The raid leader said, crouched down, and helped me get back up.

"Don't worry, this happens to every first-timer!"

The raid leader added, giving me a thumbs-up.

I finally opened my eyes, and the surroundings looked like we were in a giant cave. This cave was not dark like the previous one at the Waterfall Valley. I was ready to use my Night Vision if need be, but when I opened my eyes, the cave was bright, not because it was like that naturally, it was because one of the Scythes used their Magic, (Illuminate), to lighten up the cave.

"It's a cave. Meaning, we'll be facing goblins. They're weak, and unintelligent. But they make up for it in numbers. No matter what, don't let your guard down!"

The raid leader said, encouraging everyone to stay on guard.

I, with the other Scythes kept moving forward until we would come across monsters, and kill them before they kill us.
