Chapter 15 - CHAPTER 14: VINEGAR LEAK

When Grandpa Delus saw Havila, his eyes brightened up, and he struggled to sit upright. Havila rushed to his side and said, "Ho ho, hold your horses, where are you rushing to? How I wish you were in my generation or at least a decade younger than me; I would have married you as soon as possible without a second thought. How lucky I would be to marry such a dashing man? I would be the source of envy and jealousy all over town." Grandpa Delus laughed heartily and said, " You still have a younger version of me; he looks just like me when I was younger."

The actress kicked in immediately, she jumped and said, "Oh no! Don't tell me you did plastic surgery in your middle age, you are still more handsome than somebody." She said that and gestured with her head towards Keveelsky discreetly. He got the signal and frowned upon realizing that they were gossiping about him right in front of him. He gritted his teeth and asked, " Are you trying to say I am not handsome enough?" This was the first time he was not given his flowers for his looks, and it hurt his ego.

He went to the bedside drawers and pulled out a picture, and gave it to Havila, saying while pointing at the old man, "Look at him and tell me how he is more handsome than me." Havila and the old man high-fived and laughed out loud. Grandpa Delus then said, "I am smelling vinegar. Did your bottle leak?" Havila then pretended to tighten the bottle cap and said, " I think I did not close it tight enough; it surely leaked, now the whole room is smelling of vinegar." They burst into another fit of laughter. Even the head butler and the driver laughed with them.

That is when Keveelsky realized he had been played. He blushed and cleared his throat. Then seriousness took over her. A minute later, she inched closer to the old man and asked, " So, Grandpa nameless, I realized this was the reason why you didn't want me to save you back then, you knew you had a serious illness, so you lured me to your grandson?"She grinned and teased, " I never would have thought that my savior was also a 'suicide thinker', how pitiful. Now tell me, what do you want? An easy and painful death, a quick and painful recovery, or a slow but less painful recovery?"

Mr Delus wanted to choose the last option but Havila beat him to it and said again, " Before you make your choice, think carefully, for the first choice, i will simply give you euthanasia which will not be painful for you but for the family; second option, you don't receive treatment,, the illness eats you slowly until you eventually die; a quick recovery is of course through surgery and the last one, is slow but painless treatment using bitter traditional medicine that will wash away all impurities and fats in your liver until the entire system is clear of toxins. Now make a choice."

Keveelsky did not interrupt her the entire time, but his eyes had an adoration and love, and also wonder at how a young, playful girl can suddenly turn into a serious doctor. His friend had mentioned her qualities before, but now he witnessed them. Grandpa Delus was a smart man, and he knew she had clarified for him to choose the easiest way so that she could get out of the marriage deal. He looked at his grandson and asked, " Child, what would you want me to choose, with a condition that I only do it after you register your marriage?"

Havila caught on to his wit and swore, "Sneaky son of a devil!" Keveelsky also got his Grandpa's wish, so he went along with him and answered, "I choose the last option for you." He wanted to punish his Grandpa by feeding him bitter medicine daily for playing with him earlier, and he also wanted the last option for himself so that Havila would not have a reason to quit this marriage. Havila caught on to his revenge plan and winked at Grandpa Delus. He didn't care, though, as long as his grandson is married, he can take anything.

The last option for him was for the two children, who obviously already liked each other without realizing it, to fall in love during his treatment. The old man clapped happily and said, "The last option it is then, with a condition that you register your marriage with immediate effect." He then pretended to cough to hide his excitement, to which Havila dissed him and said, " Come on, your lungs are perfectly healthy, so stop pretending with that fake cough, or I will take it seriously and inject you right away."

Upon hearing the comment, those who had not caught on were amazed by her sharp instincts and eyes. They applauded her and wished for them to rush the registration soon. Grandpa Delus shooed them away and said hurriedly, "Then go and get married now, I will be waiting for the medicine in the evening." Havila did not have any more tricks out of this marriage, so she went ahead with it, consoling herself that there was nothing to lose here. That is how her bitter love turned into sweet love.

They registered their marriage on that day, and Havila checked out of the hotel to stay as a young madam at Keveelsky's home. Out of all people involved, Grandpa Delus was the happiest as he knew that his grandson would not be taken advantage of and would be helped in his business by the intelligent lady. He vowed to take his medicine on time daily so that he can live longer and play with his great-grandchildren.

Looking at the two beautiful people who are now married, he bet that it won't be long before they consummated. Havila's vibe also reminded him of his wife, who passed away with the same illness; a pity there was no Havila back then to treat her, nor were there advanced machines for operations. The two people, Grandma and granddaughter, would be partners in crime considering their similar character. If he didn't know best, he would have thought that Havila was his late wife's daughter. Their similarities were that many.
