Chapter 7 - Squad 14

I folded my last cloth into my bag, making sure it fits in. It's been two days since the mission and the school has been quiet. Many of the youngsters have been eliminated and we were a few students left.

I will be leaving in less than an hour anyway.

I picked out an old, dirty bracelet and stared at it for a few seconds.

'You must survive, no matter what, Reggie. You must make your father and everyone take back their words. You are my baby and I know you will survive.' those were her exact words before she left.

Those words has been my only reason for survival. It gave me the strength I needed for surviving the Atlas, the dark forest and even the school of youngsters.

"I don't need those words to be my driving force anymore, mother. Don't worry, I will survive. Other people would need those words instead. They need it to survive," I muttered and put the bracelet into my pocket.

I picked up my phone and tapped on the email I had received a few hours ago.

'Congratulations! You have been chosen by the CSS to become a security agent. You have been selected to join the squad 14.'

I let out a deep breath and put the phone back into my pocket. Whatever this squad 14 is and whoever makes up this teams, I hope they are fun because life is about to become really interesting.

I hung my backpack over my shoulder and walked out of the room.

"Reggie scott," the red haired officer, Dianne, called walking towards me. I halted and waited for her to get closer. "I see you are doing okay. I thought you would still be hurting after getting injured like that two days ago."

I rolled my eyes as we continued walking. I had to shed my blood a bit to save myself that day.

Dianne ordered her men to search for me and I knew if they had seen me alive and unharmed, I would be the prime suspect of the deaths of the other students. It was supposed to be a mission where students would be eliminated, but it wasn't my mission to kill anyone. They would arrest me for that.

I cut some part of my body, making sure I looked injured. I harmed myself to the extent I went unconscious. When I woke up, I was at the military clinic and was told Dianne found me and brought me in. Stephanie was taken in as the prime suspect, but she doesn't remember anything. The trauma made her lose her memory. For now, my secret is safe but I will have to find a way to stop her from ratting me out.

"You owe me one for that," Dianne voice brought me out of my trail of thoughts, and when I looked at her, she had a smirk playing across her lips. "I don't accept any kind of thank you offer, but in your case, you owe me a dinner date."

She patted my back and stood in front of me. "Call me when you are ready," she whispered and slipped a piece of paper in my pocket.

I watched as she left after giving me a wink.

Owe her? I scoffed and shook my head. "I caused my own injuries," I muttered and continued down the hallway until I stepped out of the building and joined the students.

Soon enough, the military vans drove in and we all went in. The vans were protected and covered, not giving us a chance to see the route we had taken. No one has ever been out of the school and no one is allowed to know where the school is.

Now that I think about it, what could be so special that they are trying to hide the road leading to the school? The last I checked, no military zone was close to the school. It was just the big building in the middle of nowhere.

I let out a deep breath and leaned back, thinking about what to expect in this real world. All I could remember as a child was how cruel it was. It wasn't a place desired to live in.

The higher class people were ruling with cruelty. I hate this world we were going to. I hate everyone in it!

After hours on the road, the military van pulled up and we were instructed to get down.

I stepped out of the van and was welcomed by the cool breeze that blew on my face. We were in the city which was busy. There were different people moving around with cars, motorcycles, horses. The buildings were tall and there were so many of them.

The military van drove away, leaving us to fend for ourselves. The real world turned out to be beautiful. Some of the buildings were glass walled. There were drones flying around.

Advanced technology unlike when I was still a child.

I let out a deep breath and looked at my phone again. The CSS headquarters; I will be able to get there in no time.

I turned off the phone and was about to put it in my pocket when suddenly, someone flung the phone off my hand and ran away with it.

"Should I kill him?" Maki asked in my head.

"No. This is just my first day in the city. If you kill him, it would create suspicion. Besides, things like this are bound to happen," I exhaled deeply and looked at the busy road again. "My phone got stolen on my first day. Interesting."

I began my journey to the CSS headquarters which wasn't hard to find. It had to do with the security, so everyone knows where it was. I asked a few people and they directed me to where it was which wasn't far as I had expected.

I walked into the building and found some familiar faces too. The students who had gotten into the CSS too.

"Are you new too?" An agent asked, walking towards me and I nodded in response. "What is your name?"

"Reggie Scott. I was selected to squad 14."

He laughed and shook his head. "Another loser in that squad. Damn, why are losers always trying to be in 14?" He brought out his tablet and began to scroll down. "I guess you must be in the level of a Median or an Omega," he muttered and stopped scrolling.

I watched as the smile on his face faded before he lifted his eyes to look at me. "A Delta? That's new," he mumbled. "Anyway, go to the eighth floor and the first door by your right would lead you to the squad 14 hideout."

His eyes flashed white and a bright small ball appeared in the air. "Follow the direction of the light."

Navigation. There was something about navigation ability that I admire so much.

I followed the light and it led me to the hideout before it vanished. I knocked on the door and it opened up immediately to reveal four young people seated and an older man standing.

"Hello. I am Reggie Scott and I was selected to join squad 14," I introduced.

"Okay, this is unexpected. We haven't gotten new members recently. Did they bring in another loser who have no future?" The brunette lady with a tinted purple highlights, asked.

There we go again, being called a loser. It seems it was a common word.

"Stop it May. We are also losers. It would be hypocritical of us to call anyone else a loser," the older man standing shunned her and faced me. "Anyway, I am Hero, the captain of the squad."

"I am Carson, the vice captain. One thing you should know is that, I hate disrespect," the tall, bald haired guy, introduced.

"I am Dennis," the tired, nerd guy answered and yawned afterwards.

"I am Georgia. I came here last year and I am the weakest of all. This is May," the grey haired girl introduced and pointed at the other. "She is the next weakest after me, so you don't have to worry about her unless you are weaker." She chuckled while May grunted.

"Anyway, what level are you?" The captain asked.

"I am in level six," I answered and the room went quiet with their eyes widened.

After their long silence, Carson asked, "A Delta? For a young student, that's strange. Shouldn't you be in squad 1 or 2? Those are the groups with powerful people."

"Why would the headquarters send in someone in the level of a Delta to this squad? There must be a mistake somewhere," Georgia pointed out, playing with her fingers.

"With a Delta in our midst, work is about to get serious," Hero revealed and the rest of the team grunted.

Suddenly, strong energy filled the room, causing a powerful pressure that made everything vibrate. It was so strong that it could be felt, not just by me but also by the other members in the room.

Someone with a very powerful energy had entered. So powerful that it got my hunger for energy intensified. I want that energy.

"I am Hugh Grimm and I was selected to join this squad. I am at the level of a Delta," someone introduced and when I turned to look at him, the ghouls screamed in my head and my world had a great quake.

"Kill him! He must be killed!" Maki screamed.
