Chapter 8 - Who is he?

Dark smoke began to swirl around me and my blood began to boil. My inside became chaotic. Maki was trying to take control of my body.

"He must be killed!" He repeated, trying to take over.

If he does, it would only blow my cover. Even though Maki told me about the powers I have, I haven't mastered them properly to be able to use it against the humans who had powerful weapons.

'Calm down right now, Maki!' I screamed in my head and my body became calm immediately. He became calm and quiet.

"You will remain calm. We are not going against whoever this guy is, until I say so," I warned and I heard him grunt. "Am I clear?"

"Yes, master," he answered in a shrill and I felt his energy weakened a bit. I let out a deep breath and looked at the new guy whose eyes were on me.

He had blue bright eyes, which were fixed on me with curiosity. His black hair was in messy curls. He looked somewhat harmless, more like a guy who is just starting life and is curious about everything.

We both maintained eye contact. He was probably wondering who I was, if he had sensed Maki's energy. I was also thinking the same, wondering who this guy was that got Maki disturbed.

"Another newbie who is a Delta?" Carson asked and grunted. "What is the commander up to?"

The captain had his eyes fixed on us, not uttering a word. Could it be he sensed our energies too?

"They are about to make our jobs uneasy," he finally answered and looked away. "I hate this."

"These losers would definitely be in our way," May said in annoyance, and they all averted their gazes to her.

"Losers?" Georgia asked. "They are both level six and we are level seven. We are actually the losers."

"Can you please stop embarrassing me in front of our juniors," May snapped and stood up. "You just have to tell them what level we are, don't you?"

"I couldn't control my mouth," Georgia replied innocently, and pouted like a child denied her favorite candy.

"That's enough guys. We don't have to do this in front of our juniors," Carson pointed out and stood up. "Even though they are at a higher level than most of us, we are their seniors and they will obey us or else, they face the consequences."

Did they forget we are in the same room with them? Talk about gossiping about us in our presence.

"This should be a new wake for us. We have to surpass our juniors," Hero pointed out and leaned against the table. "We have to succeed in our missions now."

I drew my brows and faced him, "if I may ask, how successful has the squad been? What is the squad achievement?" I asked curiously.

They all stared at me for a few minutes before they burst into laughter. "Dude, we have never succeeded in a mission before. We are the losers of the CSS," Carson replied.

"But we do have one achievement though," May said, attracting everyone's attention to her. "The achievement of not having one successful mission. Achievement of failure." They all laughed again.

Are they all satisfied being failures? That is crazy. The team is crazy.

Hero's phone rang out and when he read the message sent to him, his smile slowly faded. "We have a mission," He reported. "There would be a robbery at the local bank in thirty minutes. We have to stop them and get them arrested."

The corner of my lips lifted at the hearing of that. It was time to feed on souls. I turned back to leave, but came face to face with Hugh who was staring darkly at me. The innocence in his eyes were gone. I couldn't read his face, but one thing I was sure of was that, he doesn't mean well. Did he hear my thought? Was he a mind reader?

"Let's get going guys," Hero yelled out and we broke contact. He walked out first and I went after him.

We drove in the squad's car and pulled over in front of a bank.

"Now, this is our plan," Hero started and looked at me and Hugh. "This would be your first mission with the security agents. You don't have to do anything except watch us," he instructed.

The team all discussed their plan to each other, leaving me and Hugh aside. When they were done, Hero faced us again.

"We will go in there immediately the thieves go in and attack," he said proudly. "They wouldn't suspect a thing and that would make it the easiest way to get them."

"What if they are armed?" Hugh asked in a low, quiet voice with his eyes fixed on the bank across the road. "They are not stupid. They would see our van and it wouldn't be a surprise attack anymore."

"Are you trying to say the Captain's plan is stupid?" May asked with her brows drawn. She was annoyed but tried to hide it. "You are a newbie and have never been in missions like this. Lay low kiddo, and do as he says."

"How about you all go in now and pretend to be customers, then you attack when they least expect it?" I asked and got their attentions diverted to me.

"And it's easy to act as customers? Why waste our time going in there to wait for them?" Hero asked and let out a deep breath. "And besides, we need to catch them in the act if we want to make their arrest valid."

Valid? They were going to rob a bank. Isn't that valid enough?

"Put on your buds and wait for our call," Hero said and took the lead. The robbers went into the bank, just at the set time given to us.

Hugh and I were left alone. That amount of power he possessed, I wanted it, and us been alone was the perfect time for it.

I slowly turned and faced him with a corner of my lips lifted lopsidedly. He stared at me with a straight face but deep down, I knew he was curious about what I was trying to do.

Without wasting another minute, I yelled out, "REALM OF DOMINANCE: EXTEND!"
