Right now, Leo and the others still believed Kaitō Kid was outside the museum. At best, they had narrowed it down to someone in the crowd.
If Zhang Yang caused any commotion inside the museum now, Leo would immediately be forced to shift his attention back.
So once he made a move, he had to take the bronze axe in one go. There would be no room to maneuver or chances to try again.
Zhang Yang stood near the bronze axe for a bit, then casually walked away.
The museum was brightly lit, which wasn't ideal for any action.
He had also noticed that the museum's display cases were equipped with theft alarm systems.
"If I can set off the alarm inside the museum and show up at the scene, Leo will have no choice but to act."
Leo could stay calm now, but once something went missing and the alarms started blaring, Zhang Yang didn't believe he'd stay still.
But before that, he needed to shut down the museum's power.
The problem was, when he found the electrical room, he saw BND agents guarding it.
"Looks like the four of them are stationed here specifically. Leo really covered his bases."
Zhang Yang felt a surge of adrenaline. It had been a while since he'd met a worthy opponent.
Leo had guessed what Zhang Yang was going to do—and Zhang Yang had figured out Leo's whole plan too.
"When paths cross, the bold prevail."
"Let's see, Leo—who's got more guts?"
The power room was located inside the museum and only had one door.
There were guards at the entrance, sure—but there were plenty of other ways to kill the power.
Zhang Yang headed into a restroom in the museum and unplugged one of the hand dryers.
Then he took a metal wire from the mop in the corner.
Grinning wickedly, Zhang Yang bent the wire into a U-shape and shoved it straight into the socket.
A spark flashed from the outlet, followed by a loud pop. The restroom lights went out instantly.
The entire museum went dark with it.
People outside were stunned when they saw the lights go out.
[Oh my god! The museum just blacked out—it has to be Kaitō Kid!]
[Only the museum lost power. Does that mean Kaitō Kid's already inside?!]
[Shit! How did he even get in? Director Leo's been standing out front this whole time!]
[Hahaha! Kaitō Kid never disappoints!]
[Leo thought Kaitō Kid was hiding among us—looks like he guessed wrong!]
Even the onlookers could figure out what was happening now. Of course Leo understood too.
A blackout inside the museum had to mean something went wrong inside. The odds of it being an accident were almost zero.
But the power room was guarded—how could something still go wrong?
"Damn it, you idiots!"
Leo turned and rushed toward the museum, yelling into his earpiece to the agents guarding the electrical room.
"Bastards! What's going on?"
"Why did the museum lose power?"
The moment the lights went out, the agents at the electrical room opened the door to check.
They found the breaker had tripped and tried to restore power—but the switch wouldn't budge.
"Reporting, sir! We can't reset the breaker. We might need time to check the entire museum's wiring!"
They were totally clueless. Zhang Yang had left the wire jammed in the socket, which kept the breaker from resetting.
Even if they got it to flip, the power would trip again the second it came back on.
"Idiots! Get moving and find the problem!"
"Everyone stay alert! Kaitō Kid is inside the museum! If you see him, capture him immediately!"
The moment Leo finished shouting, a sharp alarm blared through the museum.
Red warning lights began to flash—fast, loud, and urgent.
[WTF? Did Kaitō Kid really pull it off?]
[Oh my god! The museum alarm's going off—this has to be Kaitō Kid!]
[Tsk tsk tsk, even Director Leo couldn't spot him and still lost!]
[Wow, turns out Leo talks big but doesn't deliver. That was fast!]
Most museums had backup power systems for their security setups, so a blackout didn't affect the alarms.
Leo cursed in frustration. He didn't have the patience to walk anymore—he broke into a full sprint.
"Fuck!"
Zhang Yang tossed a smoke bomb into the Art & Literature Exhibit. As soon as he stepped in, he smashed the corner display case with a punch.
"I'll leave the rest to Director Leo."
Grinning with that signature cocky smirk, Zhang Yang left behind a rubber dummy in the corner and slipped away under the cover of smoke.
As expected, there was no way Leo could stay calm now.
"Sir, report! Suspected sighting of Kaitō Kid in the Art & Literature Exhibit!"
"He threw in a smoke bomb—we're searching now!"
The moment his men reported in, Leo ordered more agents to assist.
Within seconds, dozens of BND agents inside the museum began rushing toward the Art & Literature Exhibit—including those originally stationed at the Dragon Nation Exhibit.
In the end, it proved Zhang Yang was bolder.
Leo still couldn't tell real from fake.
Zhang Yang avoided most of the agents heading toward the decoy location. The Art & Literature Exhibit housed priceless books and paintings, which only made Leo more anxious.
That was one of the museum's most valuable sections.
With alarms flashing and sirens blaring, the atmosphere inside the museum was tense. Every agent looked dead serious.
But Zhang Yang, now stepping into the Dragon Nation Exhibit, seemed totally relaxed.
No one was there. The alarm had already been triggered.
All he had to do was walk up, open the case from both ends, and take the bronze axe. Done.
"When paths cross, the bold prevail—and this time, I win."
Smirking proudly, Zhang Yang flipped his hand and stored the bronze axe in his magic space.
Still, there were plenty of agents outside. Getting out now wouldn't be easy.
'Even if Harrison and Holmeska didn't come, slipping out of here clean won't be simple.'
After some thought, Zhang Yang headed straight for the Art & Literature Exhibit.
Everyone here was dressed as BND agents anyway—just act like part of the team.
Leo had arrived at the exhibit first. Thick smoke filled the room, but as more agents poured in, they quickly spotted the dummy in the corner and the broken display case.
"Fuck! We've been tricked!"
"Move! Get to the Dragon Nation Exhibit, now!"
Zhang Yang had just stepped into the exhibit when agents began streaming out.
"Damn that Kaitō Kid—his target must've been the Dragon Nation collection!"
Leo stormed past Zhang Yang, cursing the whole time, completely unaware that the person he was chasing was standing right beside him.
Zhang Yang gave a subtle, cold smile and followed the crowd of agents out—heading straight back to the Dragon Nation Exhibit.
The glass case for the bronze axe was open. Empty.
The truth was out. The outcome was clear.
Leo clenched his teeth in rage.
"Son of a bitch! That bastard!"
"Kaitō Kid, you slippery rat!"
He had thought his preparations were airtight. But in the end, he still fell for it.
