By the time I reached my office, I was emotionally full and physically starving. That café lunch felt like a social crime scene, and honestly, I deserved a damn trophy just for walking out of there with my spine still intact.
I dropped my small purse on the desk and slumped into the chair, the leather groaning underneath me like it, too, had had enough of the day. My fingers brushed the edge of my desk, and like a bad song I didn't ask for, Kate's voice echoed in my mind.
"Fiona's family are one of the biggest investors in the company. That's why she got the job easily. She's giving a speech during the anniversary to boost her family's reputation."
That's what she said to me on my way back to my office.
