Chapter 16 - Chapter 15

I am guessing the daredevil me evaporated as I saw the sunset and the place was engulfed in darkness. There was no moon to reflect anything. Something horrible happened here. I can sense something but I can't put my finger on it. The sooner I leave this forsaken place the better. I sat in the cockpit and looked up and I saw a large cruiser come out of the star bridge. This huge metal crate was gliding in space and I had no doubt that it had everything to do with the tail. So I had to find a way to get out before I am toast. I asked the on board computer that happens to be part cyborg for the best possible method to hide. It told me to go underwater and stay there till the coast was clear. I remember the stories about the Fyr. A large water beast with sharp teeth. It swims deep cold water. It moves in the direction of anything radiating heat. The bite force this monster has can split this vessel in two with absolute ease. He asked for a description so he can calculate the probability of success. I told him everything that I heard growing up. The size is three hundred meters long and a hundred meters wide. Armor plated scales for skin. Glowing yellow eyes. Flared nostrils. Sharp teeth and talons. It opens its mouth and gives off an energy that obliterates anything in its path. The speed is unknown. So he started the engine and flew low. He kept scanning for a body of water. He managed to find one before the scanning bots came down. We dove down past the depth normally considered just above the midnight point.

The scanning bots came and scanned the surface and then they dropped DVPs. It stands for Deepsea Visual Probe. This device is a meter long and a third of a meter wide. It is cylindrical shaped with sensors on the front and on the underside. The underside for radar while the front is an optic device so the operator can maneuver it. I know because I piloted one during my time serving the Arcan royal army. I know all of its weaknesses and all it's strength. I asked the ship to go lower as the probe can't scan past some distance. If it wants a more detailed scan it will have to go lower. The pressure of the water will crush it. So it went two meters down. I told it to turn off the radar because sometimes these probes have a sensor placed to find radar pings. So he switched it off. After five hours I switched on the radar to find out that the DVPs have removed so we surfaced quietly. I got to see a small camp on the edge of a beach. There was a strange contrast between the pitch black sea and the ghostly sands. Despite the fact that fire was huge it didn't illuminate the entire space like it does on other planets. If Fyr is real it will come and eat these people. I used the sensors in the ship to see if there were any ships floating up in the sky. According to the sensors there were none.

So I drove the ship to hide behind the cliffs so no one could see me take off. We took off and I was certain that someone would follow us so we activated the ghost mode. Then I quietly made it close to the nearest planet without being pulled by its gravity. I took a deep breath before opening the space bridge. I realized that if I keep coming here then there is a possibility that people will be waiting for me here to trap me. So as I went through I made a promise that I will only come here as a last resort. The portal closed behind me and I got to see a view that took my breath away. The black canvas of space with flecks of purple, blue and silver. The stars at a distance twinkling like precious stones. I even saw a quasar. Then I saw world wrapped in sandstorm and glowing ice. The celestial body was an awe to stare at. If somehow I get stuck here I suppose I wouldn't be too sad to be here. But I have to careful what I wish for. Sometimes when I get it I wish I didn't. Mainly because of the consequences that follow with it off..

The bridge opens to Sakura port owned by the Qi clan. The locals are friendly but if you do anything stupid you will leave here in a medical capsule or a funeral pod. If you have something that interests them then it is the end my friend. They will go to the ends of the galaxy to find a way to make you a part of their organization. I happily disembarked and asked for fuel and a place for respite. The harbour master asked me why I was roaming around at such a dangerous time. I said that I was lost and I was just refueling so I could get the telemetry corrected to go home. I was just exploring the galaxy. I will leave after I take a shower and a bite to eat. I promised not to harass the locals or stick my nose in other people's business. He gave me a metal card the size of my arm. It had holes in places like it was in code. He said that I had exactly an hour and then he will evict me. I happily asked where to get changed and he pointed across the street to a small building sandwiched between two large buildings. There were red lanterns on the ledge with gold tassels on them.

I paid the lady fifty valuta and got me a room for an hour. I quickly ordered my lunch and requested it be ready by the time I come down. She saw the metal and asked me if the harbour master gave me a hall pass. She said that what I am holding is called a punch card. It allowed someone to roam around without being arrested. I thanked her and I quickly went up and took a shower. I changed my outfit and came downstairs and ate what the lady had made. It was wholesome, hearty and filling. I came running and gave the harbour master the punch card. The man gave me a solemn nod as he waved the cyborg to release the clutch. Since I was early he gave me a few Dusk and Demut as change. I took a few steps forward when trouble arrived in the form of a quadratic morag. An eight eyed, green skinned slimy being. He has small ears situated on top of his head. He wore a shirt, pants and boots in the local style. He walked and started asking questions. I ignored him as I walked up the ramp to enter my ship. He asked me if this ship was tagged. He asked if this was stolen. He asked me if this was fast and also if anyone was expecting me somewhere. I clapped my hand and the ramp closed before he had a chance to board it. The harbour master reminded him that he is not allowed to harass those with hall passes. So he said something I think was a swear word and walked off.

As for me I made a mental note never to come to Sakura port ever again. This meant I had to find a different place to stay. I asked the computer to calculate the distance between here and the Everglades in the Moor constellation. The intergalactic Eden. The perfect place to remain anonymous. It was until I recalled why. The Arman Royal families frequent the place. If I go there I am as good as dead. So I asked him to divert me to Kankur in the Sarasa regions. The literature capital of the galaxy. Where the intelligence of the galaxy convene to share their knowledge to enrich the people. Ideas are welcome as long as the end result does not take a life. The head of the city Miri is a friend that I rescued during my stay as a medic so he owes me a favor. I am about to cash it in. The computer tallied up and opened the space bridge. I was flying through the mesmerizing view of the galaxy. I saw the milky way. I saw the birth of a star. I saw a meteor shower and even an asteroid belt. I even saw junk floating in space. It took me a moment to realize that it was bits and pieces of ships that were blown apart during some sort of battle.

The bridge opened and I used the frequency that Miri told me to use and he responded. He was surprised to hear from me. He gave permission to land and the coordinates too. I landed on the front courtyard of the Kankur intergalactic resort and spa. It was beautiful. The place was engineered to compliment the forest it was surrounded by. The place wasn't built like those fancy bejeweled palaces. No this was done with purpose and looked respectable. Five stories high. With plants on every veranda. It looks like it requires less energy to keep the place cool. As I walked towards the front steps am elderly man greeted me. I asked him if I could see Miri and he said that he was Miri. I jumped back in shock. He had wrinkles on wrinkles. He was bald and most of his flesh shrunk so much that his skin was clinging to his bones. His voice has changed. His iris had started to turn gray. He was missing a few teeth and he had a hunchback. He used to be tall, burly, funny, loud, bright and adorable. This drastic change was a shock.

He asked me if I was Alysia's granddaughter. I said, "It's me. Alysia. I am here to collect a debt that you owe me. I saved your life now I asked for respite for a few days." He scratched his chin and asked me things that only I would know. I told him about the DVP I used to locate him. I remember using the Hinomoto medical capsule and he said that Hinata brand was better. I reminded him that I was working with the Parthans. These people have been using medical equipment since the beginning of time itself. So if they say it is the best then I am not going to argue. He and I used to compare medical equipment and he used to give ideas about how to update them or he would request a replacement. Like I said the Parthans don't use untested material because if it fails then they have failed. Which is why they only used equipment that Gorges has personally tested in the combat field and sent their seal of approval. He was in the line of fire not once but a few times but only once did he say that he owes me. So I am here to see if he honors his word. He asked me how I had maintained my youthful looks. I said that I must have accidentally injected something. He asked me if I still had the vial. I recall destroying it. I threw it into the melting furnace in my neighbor's house but I left that part out. I said that I don't remember what happened since it was a hundred years ago. He asked me why I chose to come now of all times. I said that I missed my friend and that I am tired of exploring the galaxy. He was interested in the places I have been but he decided to wait till I recuperated. He had the butler take me to one of the guestrooms. My belongings were placed on the desk. All it had was clothes and a pendant. Anything of value was hidden in Stargazer and the Lexicon. I grinned as he walked out and closed the door behind me.
