Chapter 17 - Chapter 16

After my rest I pulled out the information pod that told me that only students get immunity while guests are offered limited protection and have been evicted previously. So I applied to be a student and was redirected to a dorm with all my stuff. I had to fly my ship to the student parking zone. I was given a key and promised that not Miri will be given the code. I happily joined the classroom. Since I was new I was introduced to the entire class. I introduced myself as Alysia Storm borne. I mentioned that I was a combat medic that served in a war. But I came here to study and make something of myself. The others asked me if I had killed anyone. I replied, "I went to court and declared myself a conscientious objector. So no violence on my part just provides medical service." Miri walked and said that there was confusion. I walked in here by accident. The teacher showed him the documents proving that I am now a student of this institute. He gave her an angry look before storming off. I blinked twice and the teacher asked me what I possessed. I said that I have nothing. She said that he has been obsessed with immortality but unfortunately he has not found anything yet. He is hoping that a solution would show up. He believes that he has a lot to offer the galaxy but he is limited by time. I said that I am Arcanon so we live to be two hundred. She grinned, "He is a hundred and thirty years old. He knows that his time is up. My advice is to stay away from Miri." I humbly bowed to say I respect her advice. She grinned, "Manners. A forgotten trait that must be revived." I was placed in the front row.

After engineering class was over Miri came to request that I forfeit my status as a student. He has a few experiments he wishes to conduct on me that will be denied because of my current situation. I smiled, "I am a student and I am happy." The supervisor was kind enough to tell Miri to leave me alone. And whatever experiments he has in mind is going to get him kicked out of this planet. He stormed off and soon there was a fire in the headmaster's quarters. I ran to help and saw that the fire was roaring. I focused on dousing the flames and soon the intensity was dying. I ran to find any survivors. The headmaster was found unconscious. So I dragged him out and gave him mouth to mouth resuscitation. He started coughing and I dragged him to the open. He started breathing heavily. He thanked me as the medical bot took him to the recovery wing. The bot was trying to save him but for some unknown reason he was malfunctioning. So I used my training to use it. The first thing I did was use a bronchoscopy to check the airway for any sort of congestion or obstruction. Then I intubated him to ensure he had plenty of oxygen. He was panicking so I massaged his palm to induce a sense of peace. Shiatsu is very specific. It took me a few minutes but he finally calmed down. He started breathing normally and I waited for a few more minutes before giving him a mucolytic. He started coughing up mucus and soon his breathing became less rattling. I gave him a nasal cannula and asked him to rest. If his condition worsens then put him in a medical capsule. A hyperbaric chamber to be precise.

As I walked out the students gave me a round of applause. The supervisor gave me an encouraging smile as I went up to my dorm to get some sleep. The next teacher excused me for skipping class. The med bot was sent for repairs. So for the time being a licensed med was requested. I suggested Parthans since they are known throughout the galaxy as the best medics. There are other planets involved in medicine. But all of them go to the Parthan on Polis major regions to study medicine. As for me I spent the next few days studying how spaceship propelled themselves through space. The method to create weapons. To repair machines and to rig them if necessary. I even learned to figure out if my ship is tagged with a tracker or the star bridge activator has been switched off or not. The entire time Miri would be glaring at me. He would be coughing violently and would be taken to the recovery wing for recuperation. At one he asked me if I could donate my blood so he can replicate the process. I told him to embrace his destiny since he is lucky. He has a wife, child, respect and a job. Most people would die for that. He should focus on his health. He argued that he can recover if he can reverse his condition. I told him that he is not going to get my blood. He is going to get treatment like everyone else. He was infuriated but said nothing.

When the semester was over I happily left the planet for Aetheria in the Nyx system. The place was on the outer edge of the known galaxy. This place is frequented by people who are trying to escape the law or people who are trying to change their lives. So when I landed in that watering hole people came forth thinking it was an opportunity. I made sure to wear my mask so no one could identify me. An orange skinned blue striped Zendayan came asking if she could join my crew. I asked her if she was good at anything. She said that she is a skilled fighter. She is good at fixing things. I asked her where I could eat and she pointed at a tavern. It was called the interceptor. The clientele all stared as I walked past them to the back. The Xigarians were eyeing with contempt. They are humanoid lizards who occasionally have fits of rage. They kept eyeing me so I made a fist and it caught fire. Immediately they turned away. Aetherians are hospitable but they are cunning thieves. They like to knock people out and rob them blind. I made myself appear as though I had practically nothing except my ship. I made sure to avoid any beverages other than water. The Zendayan came back with a pale purple skinned Trojian and an olive skinned Calamatan. Trojians are experts in disguise and great escape artists. Calamatans are expert pilots and they love the thrill of travel. The only time they are moody is when they are land locked. A pale blue Anthro came not far behind. These are shape shifters. They are usually trained to be assassins.

They moved their belongings on board and we took off to Antar. I missed the permafrost planet. I was hoping to collect some stones. I need it in order to buy parts to fix my ship. The others had never heard of the place so they kept asking questions. All I said was that it is a mining planet that has precious stones traded all over the galaxy. I introduced myself as Storm borne. The others introduced themselves too. The Trojian said his was Q. The Zendayan said her name was Seven and the Anthro introduced herself as Remi. As I opened the star bridge the others took a breath of relief. I told them that they had better not be causing trouble or I will get them out of the ship. They promised to behave as we went through the portal. The view was spectacular. A black hole, floating remnants of ships and a huge composite of gas. The bridge opened to show the snow storm has cast a whiteout. I had to use every tectonic scanner, radar and also thermal sensory. I had to keep the ship above the storm till it passed then we landed. We introduced ourselves as workers hoping to assist in mining. I was assigned to the scanning crew the others were delegated elsewhere. My ship was taken to the heated garage to check for any sort of damage. After our salaries were set we were sent to our respective position. The scanning crew was hoping to find a particular type of gem. It is a rainbow colored stone. This was the prize of this planet. There was an obsidian mine as well but they simply cut off the material and ship it out of space for processing since it is a toxic process.

The story of my bounty was still rampant but my crew seemed less eager. We were given days off once a month. We were talking about how long we will serve before cashing out. There was an alarm and people were firing at the gate. Thankfully it is blaster proof, scratch proof and explosion proof. The people on the other side were raiders that popped up once in a while. They hoped to steal the gems in the hopes to make themselves rich. But so far they have not been able to penetrate the mining outpost. The usual exchange before security blasted them with plasma. The pirate had no choice but to retreat. Then comes the mandatory headcount and lockdown. The complex is locked up for eighteen hours till the security is certain that the workers are safe. If anyone is missing they use the ARK protocol. ARC started for Auxiliary Renegade Camp. These tough warriors move in concentric circles till they find the stragglers. They are placed elsewhere till the planet is deemed safe for the rest of the people. Then they move to eradicate the pirates. This usually takes a day or three. I usually just stick laundry but the others are more interested in the monotonous life while I focused on how to stay under the radar. Miri wants my head and so did Malicious intent if I stopped to think about it. Arcan royal army had placed spies everywhere and they believed like those creepy Semites that they could get away with everything because they believed that they were above reproach.
