"Because you're both growing up. Boys and girls can't sleep in the same bed, you need to sleep separately. And as you get older, the differences between boys and girls become more important, so you must be more mindful of your behavior. Do you understand?" Claire explained gently and patiently.
"Okay…" Linda and Hilary agreed.
Claire led them to the next bedroom. Since there weren't many rooms, and worried the two might fight if they shared a bed, she simply slept with them herself which also conveniently kept her far away from Gilbert.
Gilbert waited and waited, but Claire never came back. He texted her, only for her to reply immediately,
"Stop it. I'm putting Linda and Hilary to sleep. They're still young. You're the grown one, take care of yourself."
Then she shut off her phone and went to sleep soundly.
On the other side, Gilbert ground his teeth. If he called again, Claire wouldn't respond at all.
The next morning.
