Gilbert didn't respond. A moment later, the door opened and a hostess entered, carrying a red tray and wearing a bright, professional smile.
"Mr. Watson, here is the jade Guanyin you requested."
Gilbert gave a brief nod, indicating she should bring it to Claire.
Understanding at once, the hostess stepped forward and gently set the jade piece in front of Claire.
Claire stared at Gilbert, startled.
So it had been him. He was the one who had signaled Coldblood to place the bid. But if that was true... what did this jade mean?
"It's for Dean. Hold onto it for him," Gilbert said, his tone even.
Claire blinked, momentarily lost for words.
"Adam has one just like it. They were clearly a pair. Since Adam already has his, Dean should have his too. Brothers should never be separated."
His voice was calm but resolute.
Claire's heart skipped.
Was he saying he wanted both boys? That they had to stay together?
