"Daddy, Hilary's mom is on a business trip, and there's no one at home with her. Can I bring her to stay with us for a few days? Please?" Dean ran over and winked at Claire, signaling her not to say anything, then turned to Gilbert with his request.
Claire froze for a second but quickly understood the little guy's intention. He didn't want his sister to feel neglected and alone, he wanted the family to be together.
Her eyes turned misty.
Hilary also looked at her mommy, pouting sadly.
Seeing her little face full of grievance, Claire's heart ached.
She shook her head gently at her.
Hilary immediately picked up on her meaning.
Mommy didn't want her to stay here, didn't want Daddy to find out the truth about her identity.
But Hilary didn't care. She just wanted to be with Mommy and her siblings.
She nodded her little head firmly, assuring her that she wouldn't let Daddy find out.
Claire could only sigh in resignation.
