When Claire came upstairs with Adam and Dean, they saw Gilbert carrying Linda in his arms, walking down the hallway with a gentle expression as he softly coaxed her.
Linda lay obediently on Gilbert's shoulder, pouting and crying delicately.
It was a picture-perfect moment of father-daughter affection.
Adam and Dean immediately showed disdainful expressions.
"Daddy only likes that little drama queen," Dean scoffed coldly. "Just like her mommy, always causing trouble. Annoying."
Claire looked at Gilbert tenderly holding Linda, his face filled with fatherly love, and couldn't help but think of Hilary.
If he knew that Hilary was his biological daughter, would he treat her the same way?
Gilbert had always loved Linda the most. The love he gave her far surpassed what he gave Dean. Otherwise, Dean wouldn't reject him so strongly. This must be what they mean by "loving the house and its crow."
