Intricate sealing jutsu spread across his arm, concealing the wood, leaving only the chilling density of Sharingan eyes.
Danzō, unfazed, calmly re-bandaged his arm.
"Hanzo, only Hashirama Senju possessed true Wood Release."
"He was the God of Shinobi. I can't compare, but gaining this power is significant."
"You likely guessed why I summoned you."
Hanzo remained silent, coldly glancing at the shadows beneath Danzō. "Black Zetsu, since you're here, show yourself."
"Keeping you in Amegakure was a mistake. I want to know what trouble you've caused."
Hanzo had allowed Black Zetsu to remain because he knew of Nagato's Rinnegan and his expertise in organ transplantation. Seeing the similarity in skin tone and chakra between Danzō and Black Zetsu's other half, Hanzo suspected a connection. Their appearances were suspiciously close in time.
"Heh, the Demigod Hanzo, you've seen through it quickly," a raspy voice echoed from under Danzō.
A black shadow writhed, and a figure with a yin-yang face emerged—Black Zetsu.
Hanzo snorted. "If I hadn't been testing you, I would have killed Danzō."
"You would have attacked me from the shadows the moment I was trapped by the Wood Release."
Hanzo's killing intent was palpable.
As Black Zetsu said, his reputation as the Demigod spoke volumes.
And this was his territory. Being humiliated here would be a disgrace.
Sensing the rising tension and the sounds of their earlier fight, the surrounding ANBU were alerted.
Seven or eight figures appeared, sealing off the rooftop. The atmosphere became thick with tension.
Danzō, unfazed, chuckled. "Hanzo, you're still the same."
"As I said, your failure in the Second Great Ninja War was due to impulsiveness. You didn't understand stealth or patience."
"If you had unleashed your full power in the Third Great Ninja War, wouldn't Amegakure have gained more territory?"
Hanzo's face twitched. "Danzō, are you suggesting I hide in Konoha like you and secretly build a Root?"
"Don't try to justify your incompetence. If you were truly capable, the Hokage would be you, not Hiruzen or that brat Minato."
You! Danzō was speechless. He'd expected to lecture Hanzo from a position of moral superiority, but Hanzo was ruthlessly exposing his weaknesses.
Black Zetsu intervened. "Enough. This meeting is my idea, to help Amegakure eliminate Akatsuki."
"But before that, we have something more important. Success means not only the Rinnegan, but also the strongest Mangekyō Sharingan in the world."
What? Hanzo's expression changed dramatically. He was no fool. He had led Amegakure to prominence during the Second Great Ninja War.
He possessed exceptional strength, intellect, and leadership. Only his ambition for power and Danzō's manipulation led him to target Akatsuki.
Understanding Black Zetsu's meaning, Hanzo said gravely, "You're using Akatsuki to lure out Uchiha Kai for an assassination attempt?"
"You know about the Two-Tails' capture in Kumogakure."
"That Mangekyō Sharingan is tempting, but it's already mastered. Instead of confronting him, why not settle for Akatsuki?"
Hanzo stared intently at Danzō and Black Zetsu. Before they could respond, the sound of footsteps echoed through the rain.
The surrounding ANBU turned, their eyes widening.
They saw a pair of blood-red eyes, as bright as the moon. The ANBU, previously alert, fell under a genjutsu, frozen in place.
"They say Hanzo is the closest to a god. But he's settling for less against a mere Uchiha."
"If I told you I could completely counter the Uchiha's Sharingan, would you be interested in cooperating?"
The words hung in the rain. Hanzo looked at the newcomer, his face a mixture of surprise and apprehension, as the trapped ANBU remained ensnared in the genjutsu.
