Damon POV
I helped Opal into the shower so she could freshen up, then found one of my old t-shirts and a pair of boxers for her to wear. I'll need to get her some clothes soon, but for now, this would have to do.
I should have something in the attic that she can wear tomorrow before we go shopping. It was during my musing that she stepped out of the bathroom wrapped in nothing but a towel.
My brain short-circuited and all I could think was, 'What I wouldn't give to ravish her right now...' I cleared my throat quickly pulling myself together while reminding myself, 'She is weak and the baby needs to be checked on first before I can take my wife to bed again.'
She walked over to me a placed a soft kiss to my lips before she said, "So what am I wearing to bed?"
I chuckled and handed her the clothes, which she raised an eyebrow at but put them on anyway. I handed her my robe so she felt better about the lack of fabric covering her and she smiled at me.
After she was dressed we set off for the kitchen. I wanted to get some food in her, as I'm assuming our baby needs more than just blood. When I heard the unmistakable sound of Elena's car pulling into the driveway.
I turned to my gorgeous wife and said, "That will be Stephan and Elena, just a warning she looks exactly like Katherine but she is human. Creepy I know Stephan dating his ex's exact copy but he won't listen to me."
Opal gave me a tight-lipped nod and kissed my cheek. "Alright, love. Let's go play nice. But... let's not mention our baby yet." Her voice dropped to a whisper. "I know he's your brother, but even back then he was blind to Katherine's evil. I want to see what this doppelgänger is like before I trust her with something so precious. I didn't survive 145 years in a tomb protecting our child with magic to lose them to some wenches scheme."
I nodded in agreeance and kissed her head while wrapping my hands around her waist letting my fingers trail over her flat abdomen where our child grows.
As we continued our walk down the back stairs towards the kitchen for a light snack before bed.
Stefan and Elena walked in through the front door. He immediately stood in front of her protectively and snapped, "You got what you wanted, Damon! You have Katherine back so when are you leaving?"
I laughed because he hadn't even seen Opal yet, she was still in the pantry putting the bread away when he came in guns blazing.
"Wow, Stefan" I said. "Eager to get rid of me already, huh? Can't even give me a night to let my wife adjust to the new century before you go kicking us out of our own home. But then again you and father never really liked her."
Stephan finally looked confused but brushed it off before he said, "She can't stay here people will talk with how much she looks like Elena. You both should leave, where is she anyway?"
My wife in all her glory finally decided to make herself known. "Glad to see you remember me dear brother-in-law. I know you never really got to know me... what with your head up Katherine's skirts and all, but to forget me altogether now that's just plain rude."
Stephan spun around so fast at her voice and then looked at me with wide eyes.
"Opal, what.... how?" He stammered.
I looked at Stephan and sighed before I said, "I never wanted to get Katherine out of the tomb because I loved her. I thought she killed Opal after compelling me over and over to forget her. I was going to rip her heart out of her chest after she told me where I could find Opal's body so that I could bury her in the crypt as she is my wife. After which I was going to kill myself so that I could join her in death. Imagine my surprise and joy when I found that Katherine wasn't in the tomb but in her place I found Opal."
Stephan looked utterly confused by what I had just said.
"But you loved Katherine. You even fought with me over her and how can I not remember your wife?" Shock coloring his words as he looked at Opal and then back at me.
I chuckled at his utter stupidity while Opal reached for my hand, grounding me.
"I married Opal in Texas on her families plantation. Her brother Major Whitlock was our witness, when I brought her home father all but kicked me out of the house. Only her brothers status in the army kept him for disowning me. By then you had turned into Katherine's lapdog so you never really got to know her. I bought us a small house in town but still visited the house often to see you while I was still on leave. It was during one of my visits that Katherine compelled me. She tried to get me to sleep with her but even under compulsion I couldn't get it up for her."
I chuckled at the memory wrapping my arms around Opal's waist before I continued, "She repulsed me on a deeper level; a level I never thought possible, so I became her fixation because even under compulsion she couldn't have me. I broke her compulsion a few times before she finally got mad enough to I'm guessing switch places with Opal trapping her in the tomb in her stead."
Opal sensing my distress squeezed my hands tighter around her waist in an attempt to calm me down.
Stephan just stood there with Elena behind him with his mouth open.
I looked at him and then with a sigh said, "You see Stephan you don't know everything. If you would have just asked instead of forcing me to transition you might have known what I wanted to die for wasn't Katherine. It has always only ever been Opal. I guess I should thank you though, since because of you I was able to have her back. So thanks for that, oh and we aren't going anywhere this is our home Stephan so get used to it. One more thing be nice to my wife brother or I will end you. I lost her once I won't let it happen again."
With that I pulled Opal from the kitchen with our snack secured. Can't allow my baby to starve just because my brother is being a love sick fool, again.
