Opal POV
It was dark in the tomb. Trapped with twenty-five other vampires, for who know how many years of endless pain, hunger, and suffering courtesy of one Katherine Pierce. That conniving whore stole my husband from me through lies and compulsion.
*flashback*
"Why are you really doing this, Katherine? What do you gain by making my husband love you through deception? You even went after his brother."
Katherine laughed in my face. "I should've killed you sooner but Damon just wouldn't stop loving you. He even broke my compulsion a few times just to run back to you." Her tone sharpened. "It's fine, though. When they come for me to be sealed in the tomb, I'll switch with you after turning you."
She said as she shoved her bleeding wrist against my mouth, forcing her blood down my throat, and then snapping my neck.
I awoke just as she was talking to a guard at the tomb's entrance. She bit his arm and shoved it into my face, forcing me to complete the transition into someone like her. Then she snapped my neck again, leaving me trapped in my now crowded prison.
What Katherine didn't know was that I was also a witch, but I was different than Emily Bennett, I was a siphoner. I didn't have magic of my own, but I could pull it from others. The reason Damon kept breaking her compulsion was because I was siphoning the magic from his mind.
I only wish I'd been stronger, strong enough to save myself and my baby. I had just told Damon I was pregnant before Katherine took me. I barely managed to cast a protection spell around my unborn child before she snapped my neck.
Now, I'm a vampire... with access to the magic I need for my nest spell. Before desiccation fully set in, I used every ounce of energy I had to suspend my baby's development, to protect them until I could nourish them again.
I will wait, no matter how long it takes. I will protect mine and Damon's child.
*End flashback*
Damon POV
It was finally time to open the tomb again. I was chomping at the bit in order to rip the head off of the conniving snake. She took my world away when she stole Opal from me.
Compelling me over and over to forget her.
Opal tried to save me by siphoning the magic from my mind and it worked for a short while until Katherine would compel me again.
As soon as my transition started the memories from her last compulsion came flooding back and I just wanted to die.
I was going to be a dad, Opal was pregnant with our child and Katherine took her from me, took them from me. I need to get that bitch to tell me where she left her body so I can at least give her the burial she is owed as my wife and the mother of my unborn child.
Once Katherine tells me what I want to know I will rip her heart from her chest and feed on it myself. Once all that is done I will be able to join Opal in death finally.
It had been weeks of me torturing Stephan until he and Elena offered to help me get into that tomb.
I almost killed Lexi... but then thought of Opal, she would have loved her and couldn't do it.
I had to use some random druggie and change them to take the heat off of Stephan and myself instead.
Bonnie and Elena were kidnapped by Anna who thinks I am in love with Katherine. What's funny is that Stephan believes I loved Katherine as well it's like he forgot about Opal's existence.
Well he might have actually forgotten since I married her in Texas at her families plantation with her brother Major Whitlock as witness.
When I brought Opal home father only accepted her because of her brothers accomplishments. He kicked us out of the house almost as soon as we got back though.
I bought us a small house in town with my soldiers pay and made sure she was safe before I had to go back to the battlefield. She never really interacted with Stephan or my father before Katherine killed her, right before father killed Stephan and I. It's been over a century and I can still feel her loss as if it were yesterday.
But that's all in the past, It was finally time the Bennett witches were going to open the tomb and I would get my revenge.
The tomb's stone door opened and I dragged Elena inside with me. She was loud and clumsy... her presence stirred the desiccated vampires. None of them could move due to years of desiccation so she was safe for now unless she fell into someone's mouth. I chuckled at the thought of it but pushed it to the side so that I could concentrate on the task at hand, revenge.
I had begun to lose hope, I had checked every body in the tomb 25 vampires and no Katherine.
In a rage, I threw a blood bag against the far wall. Its contents burst and red drops flew through the air, I followed its arc out of instinct more than curiosity and froze.
There, slumped in the shadows, was Opal.
I yanked a torch off the wall, heart in my throat. It was her, she was desiccated but it was unmistakably her.
I had found her.
I heard Stephan shout "Damon"
Not willing to waste another second I scooped her into my arms and pulled her to my chest hiding her face in my shoulder as I ran for the entrance.
I passed Stephan, Elena and Anna with Pearl in her own arms as I flashed passed them thanking Bonnie and Sheila as I went.
I practically flew to the boarding house with Opal safely in my arms.
I laid her gently on my bed and grabbed seven blood bags. She drank the first with my help. The second, too and by the third, her hands were steady enough to hold it.
With each bag, her color returned and her cheeks filled out. By the seventh, she was looking more like herself again.
She dropped the empty bag and clung to me, sobbing. I held her tightly unwilling to let go, my own tears falling with hers. We sat there together for what felt like forever before she looked up at me with red-rimmed eyes and whispered, "Hello, husband... I've missed you,"
My heart shattered and healed all at once.
I smiled down at her and kissed the crown of her head before I said "I've missed you more, I thought you were dead, I thought I lost you... our child. I went into that tomb to make Katherine tell me where she left your body. I was going to bury you in the family crypt as my wife and then kill myself so I could join you in death. You have no idea how happy I am to find you alive. To be able to hold you again is my greatest wish come true. I just wish we still had our child, I'm so sorry I failed you both my love." My voice was tinged in despair and anger.
She smiled up at me and cupped my face in her hands before she said, "I am fine... we are fine"
she placed a hand to her abdomen and continued "Katherine messed up, she didn't know I was a witch much less a siphon witch. I managed to place a protection spell around our baby before she killed me. After she forced my transition I siphoned my vampire magic to cast a suspension spell on the baby. It has held until you fed me the first blood bag. We still have our child love, they will start to grow now that I am healthy again."
I am not ashamed to admit when she said our child was safe I balled my eyes out with relief and joy.
I looked her in the eyes while tracing the ring I had placed on her finger all those years ago and said, "I will keep you both safe this time I promise. I have spent the last 145 years thinking you were taken from me. I refuse to let anything like that happen again. I'm so happy to have you back with me my love."
With that said I kissed her with all that I had.
