Chapter 19 - Rall Mahena (1)

Rall Mahena was a healer of Lagandra, though not of a high ranking.

Though any where else, a healer no matter the rank would be well wanted as a healer's rarity is quite high.

But in Lagandra, The Country of Simecquia ('Healing' in a language created near the 8000's known as Laganese or also known formerly as Recleta) or The Country of Immortality, a healer wasn't much to cheer for.

That is because Healers were quite normal for Lagandra, though high ranking one's like an Abstract Thinker are still rare and cherished anything less like a described isn't that great.

And Rall Mahena was indeed in the latter category, he was of a described rank as well, though better than a Solidfied it wasn't something to effectively be praised like a legend or important asset for the country.

As such, when he got The mark in his teenage years, Rall wasn't too dissapointed since he had already expected such an outcome. He wasn't too narcissistic about it per say but he indeed didn't expect much.

It was the way Rall thought back then.

It didn't matter if He didn't have great things, it didn't matter if he Couldn't do great things,he simply wanted to do the things he needed to do and that's about it.

Why worry about having legendary talent if you only need to worry about the things you need to worry about?

He had a mom that was sick, it wasn't too costly normally but their family wasn't in the right position to use that money, he had gotten a healing mark so he was able to heal her without costing much.

He didn't like the fact that he needed to take a bath, it wasn't due to anything but a bit of laziness, so he used his mark to clean himself. Actually he found a rather smart way to use his mark to tweak his mindset a bit to just take baths himself.

It was after learning that his own emotions are basically just chemical reactions, and how some health or mental problems could cause one to have different way of thinking then they normally would.

So that was how he lived.

And in such a way, he joined the army as a healer and became quite valued. He was quite a creative thinker and so was able to garner quite the Credits and get promoted in his healer rank, getting a black badge unlike his former bronze badge.

The monster subjugation was a disaster that he hadn't even thought of happening, he knew things could go wrong as this was an important mission but never like this...

There was dust everywhere, a dust that was clouding the vision and crying the eyes.

So loud...

There were so many monsters, so many loud sounds..

His hands were wet with blood, he had someone vomit their stomach contents on him but he didn't even have the time to think before the same person began coughing up blood.

He tried really hard to save them, even though he succeeded it wasn't a good circumstance, the numbers were dropping but the monsters weren't. If it goes on the same...he didn't think he had the choice to live, either he dies a healer or he dies a failure.

He didn't think too much about it before...

But it seemed that having great talents was really important...though he was still reluctant to accept it.

He needed to save the soldiers to save himself so that he can go back home to help his father take care of his mom.

He wanted to be back home, therfore he needs to do what he needs to do.

He stopped caring for what was on him or what could happen to him. He needed to return back home alive and for that he needed to save everyone, if the soldiers die then he dies.

He ran every where to check for fallen soldiers, not onto the battlefield as he knew he couldn't try that. Death awaits him if does try.

But at a moments notice he thought he heard a child's voice.

"What is a child doing here!?"

He suddenly found himself outraged, how could there be a child in a monster subjugation campaign? What was anyone thinking.

"Damn it, I need to get her out."

He tried to follow where the voice came from, although ridiculous it was possible the child was a native nearby who got lost, it was better than a child being allowed to enter a campaign.

And as he ran, he couldn't find her anywhere but the voice was still echoing in his ears, it was a female's he could tell.

The sounds of clattering and screams were there, but they seemed to be...decreasing, actually there seemed to be more soldiers in the battled field than there should be.

What's going on?

Rall turned, finally looking towards the battlefield where monsters and soldiers cleaved each other's flesh with sharps and blunts.

A red haired child, miniscule to the eye in comparison to the battle field at large, the monsters at large.

He found himself dumbfounded because...

Rall:"Is she...healing the soldiers mid battle?"

The child was indeed risking her life to go inside the battle zone to heal soldiers.

Rall:"What is that idiot doing!? The ranged healers can do it too!"

He found himself also running into the battle field.

He knew that the ranged healers weren't enough but that didn't mean a child should sacrifice herself for this nor should she risk her life. Does she not care about her family?

He didn't realize that by running into the battle he was also risking his life, not caring for what his family would think.

Reaching the child he firmly pulled at her wrist, making her yelp in shock.

Rall:"What are you doing!? Your in the middle of a BATTLE FIELD! There are monsters that can kill you in an instant! What? Do you not have a family!?"

The child looked confused before looking at the soldier that she healed, running into battle without second thoughts.

She pointed at him then said.

Mercelle:"He also has a family, right mister? If I can I should save him right?"

Rall was taken aback by the answer but bit his lips at seeing her face once more, she was bleeding from the nose.

He didn't say anything before healing her, rejuvenating her the best he can.

Rall:"You are Foolish child! What kind of idiot would risk his life for someone else like that? You need to do what you need to do, you didn't have a need to go so far and risk your life, if he comes back to the camp you could heal him then."

He was very agitated and a fron adorned his face.

But then when he looked back at her, a bright smile a some what smug and admiring smile was shown his way.

The girl smiled really happily at him, looking like she found a rare gem or a nice bird

Then she spoke, giggling to herself.

???:"But mister...aren't you risking your life right now? For me? You have a family too you know?"

He stopped moving for a second before thinking to himself.

She...is right huh?

He couldn't help but smile.

Rall:"I guess you are right brat, come on. If we really want to help them like this then we need to move. Staying in one place is a great way to get in their way and get ourselves killed."

???:"We?"

She smirked at him.

Rall sighed before saying.

Rall:"...Yeah, we."

He was a bit annoyed at himself for following along that child but he also found himself being excited, about doing something he didn't necessarily need to do.

He and that girl had motivated other healers to do better, moving a bit closer to the battlefield but not enough to truly garner attention from the monsters.

Rall found it very fun to do more than he needed to, but he wasn't accepting changing his ideology yet.

He had earned a blue badge that day, representing his rank as second-rate healer. It wasn't much but he thought it was great.

Rall had a welcome party when he got back home, his family was really scared for him. He laughed out loud, a few tears fell as well. He was effectively laughing at himself and at how his family would have reacted if they knew what idiotic antics he had done back there.

What a foolish notion....I thought I was gonna die. But it...also felt great.
