"You can't, sweetie," he said, grinning. "Anyway, FYI, this is my first vacation. My first leave in four years."
"Four years?" I asked, blinking like he had just told me he was giving birth.
"Yes. I've been with Caesar ever since he started his company. So yeah, I haven't taken a single day off. So please... whatever happens... Do Not Call Me. If you need help, ask Jennifer. I won't be there for you. In fact, I'm going to shut off my phone."
"But it's not a vacation if you're sick." I pointed out.
"Do I really look like someone who would take a vacation if I wasn't sick?" he said with a straight face. "Like, what would I even do?"
"I don't know," I shrugged. "Maybe you could go to the beach, swim, have fun…"
He looked at me like I had said I lived on Mars.
"What do you do on the weekends?" I asked, genuinely curious.
"I prepare for my week," he said, like it was obvious.
