My voice was rising with each word, panic curling in my chest.
"He will know," I said again, "and I already have a hard time looking him in the eye. This will just be the final straw. Oh, I bet he's already struggling with this.... the girl who came here and was given a job that doesn't exist because you said so.... didn't you? And then all of a sudden, the two of us are supposedly related and now were fucking...."
I groaned, throwing the covers off me. "No. Just no. I'm waking up, I'm getting dressed, and I'm going back to work."
Caesar raised an eyebrow, completely unbothered. "Whatever you want."
He leaned back lazily against the wall, arms crossed. "But... Jennifer does these things sometimes. When her husband comes into town, she'll probably only be at work twice or three times a week. Jesper's used to it."
"Jennifer is married?" I asked, genuinely surprised.
"Yes. Didn't you know that?" he asked, clearly amused.
"I didn't." I blinked at him.
