CASEY
Cesar narrowed his eyes at Jasper. The room thickened with tension.
"I think Casey will be just fine," Cesar said slowly. "And I think it's time she left now."
"We're not done yet," Jasper said, tone level, but firm.
I blinked. I didn't know what was happening here, not really. I thought I was just here to help Jasper. To shadow him. To prepare to be Cesar's PA. But the way they looked at each other now... I realised this was something else.
There was more here. And I wasn't sure what I was walking into.
There seemed to be a pull of forces between them. Whatever it was they were battling, it was clear I didn't want to be in the middle of it.
So I said, "I'll stay."
They both turned to look at me.
"What?" Cesar asked.
"I want to stay. I want to learn." I paused, took a breath, then added, "Can I talk to you for a minute?"
Cesar glanced at Jasper before giving me a small nod. I turned and started walking out, expecting him to follow.
