She wanted to lock him away in a place where he could never hurt anyone again. She wanted him to suffer. Why didn't he just leave her mother? Why did he take her baby away, when he never showed her any love at all?
Her hands curled into fists without her realizing it. Heather squeezed harder, letting her nails bite into her palms.
Another shaky breath escaped her lips. She hated the anger inside her. She hated how powerless it made her feel, because she couldn't do anything with it. And when you can't release anger, it turns into tears.
"... Do you need to talk?"
The voice startled her. She lifted her head to see Caius in the doorway, watching her. She hadn't even heard him come in. Quickly, she wiped her tears with the back of her hand, pretending they weren't there.
"No," she said too fast and firm as she dragged her palm across her face, trying to erase the remnants of the wetness. "I'm fine."
"You don't look fine," Caius said quietly.
