Finally, she said it.
"You cheated on me."
The words came out like a confession. She felt a weight lift from her chest the moment they left her lips, but her voice shook as if her body didn't want to admit it.
Caius's face fell. "I… don't understand."
Heather hated digging into the past, dragging up memories that made her feel like she was being torn in two. "Our marriage has always been one-sided," she said. "I wasn't the one you wanted. So you treated me badly. Every day, I felt like I was fighting for scraps of your attention."
He sat there, stunned. "...I don't know what to say."
"I don't expect you to say anything," she replied. Her eyes burned slightly; she hated how emotional she was. It just annoyed her.
