Cole turned to the hallway, his boots echoing against the marble floor as he stormed out, pulling out his phone.
"Gabriel, pick up. Pick up, damn it," he muttered, pacing.
His thumb hovered over the redial button, but then a heavy thump came from behind him. He turned slowly.
Inside the room, The broken pieces of the crystal still sparkled on the sheets like glass dust. Kieran's body lay motionless beside Raine's, his fingers just barely brushing her arm.
Cole stepped back inside, squinting.
"Okay. Don't panic. Don't panic," he whispered to himself. He rubbed his face, took a deep breath, then walked to the door and pulled it shut, locking it.
"I swear if the both of you die, I'm not explaining this to anyone," he muttered.
Cole took a deep breath and stepped away from the door he had just locked behind him. His fingers curled into fists at his sides. There was no time to panic. Not now.
